Raising red carp in Thuy Tram village.

PTO- Cam Khe district is home of people from many regions. They carried the name of their land, their village and even their traditional occupation in each migration to form new craft villages here. This is one of the reasons why Cam Khe district has 11 craft villages recognized by Phu Tho provincial People's Committee. Coming here, we can see the trend of intensive investment to specialize the crafts, products, simultaneously, shifting towards the goods production.

Intensive investment, goods production

Main production fields of Cam Khe craft villages include: Wood furniture, bamboo rattan weaving, agro-forestry products processing, vegetables production, red carp farming, etc., with more than 2,000 facilities. Ms. Tran Thi Thu Huong, Head of the Agriculture and Rural Development Department, said that 11 craft villages have created jobs for more than 10,000 laborers, accounted for about 16.6% of the total industrial production value. Through the promotion program of industrial, agricultural extension and new rural construction, the district has organized courses of vocational training, training on food hygiene and safety, etc., for owners of production facilities, the heads of village and workers.

Cam Khe craft village contains both new and traditional craft villages. Traditional crafts are conical hat production in communes of Sai Nga, Son Nga; Du Ba furniture in Tuy Loc commune, Da Hen tea production and processing in Dong Luong commune; bamboo and rattan weaving in communes of Ngo Xa, Tung Khe; noodle cake in Thach De commune, agro-forestry products processing in Tien Phong commune, etc. New crafts are Thuy Tram seeding fish farming and seedlings growth in Tuy Loc commune; production of safe vegetables in Van Phu commune, votive offering production in Hien Da commune, etc. To meet the increasing demand of the market for quality and types of products; production households in craft villages gradually modernized their working tools, using machines instead of manual labor; investing in inputs, such as raw materials, seeds and supplies, to produce high-quality "output" products. In 2016, the production value of the village reached nearly VND 40 billion, the average income of labor reached nearly VND 27 million per year.

Collaborative production, brand building

The concept "craft village" is not just one craft, one product, but also a village with many crafts, or a craft but many types of products. The communes of Tuy Loc, Sai Nga, Hien Da contains two crafts. In Thuy Tram village, beside red carp farming, farmers also raise seeding fish farming and seedlings growth  with a large scale. In Sai Nga commune, the Van Phu safe vegetable growth is more and more prestigious in the market. Average income of laborers in Thuy Tram and Van Phu villages is VND2.2 million per month - the highest income among craft villages in Cam Khe district. After 7 years of recognition, the development of Da Hen tea production and processing village has strongly developed and created links between tea production households; between production, processing and markets; between workers and local authorities. 100% of households has produced tea under VietGAP standards; the farmer has been supported VND 5 million per ha to replace the old tea varieties with high yielding varieties; by 75% of investment capital, 4 mini tea drying lines, 6 tea harvesting machines, 1 tea cutting machine, etc. The craft village has cooperated with neighboring communes such as Yen Duong, Dieu Luong, Van Khuc; or even the districts of Thanh Son, Tan Son, Yen Lap to create a stable material for processing. The number of tea production households increased from 138 to more than 200.

A favorable transport; abundant, skilled and enthusiastic labor forces; enthusiastic raw materials and supplies, together with the interest of the State are advantages for the development of craft villages in Cam Khe district. Despite obstacles that craft villages haave been facing, such as lack of production space, technical infrastructure, as well as weak internal strength, small production scale, Cam Khe district has actively applied existing mechanisms and suggested reasonable policies on capital, technical and market support to encourage the development of production and business, creating a strong shift in economic structure and promote the construction of new rural areas.
