Russian Emergencies Ministry prepares plane with humanitarian aid for Vietnam

The Russian Emergencies Ministry prepares an Ilyushin Il-76 plane with humanitarian aid on board for Vietnam. About 40 tons of cargo – tents, foodstuffs, portable power sources, will be sent to aid the population, hit by major flood.

Earlier, the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin ordered the ministers to provide humanitarian aid and financial assistance to Vietnam in the amount of $5 million. Cooperation of all the necessary services was established to achieve these goals.

“Our initiative will be heard and we hope countries that are planning to attend APEC CEO Summit in Da Nang, Vietnam, would also show solidarity with Vietnamese people in the amounts and form, suitable for them”, stressed the Press Secretary for the President of Russia Dmitry Peskov.

According to him, Vladimir Putin already discussed the subject with the Prime Minister of Russia Dmitry Medvedev, the Emergencies Minister Vladimir Puchkov and the Finance Minister Anton Siluanov.

Typhoon Damrey which battered central Vietnam was the most devastating natural disaster in two decades, leaving more than 60 dead, dozens missing, and damaging about 80,000 buildings. More than 40,000 people were evacuated. Many settlements remain without electricity.
