About safe vegetable areas

Vegetables are a major food demand for everyone’s daily menu, so ensuring this food source is clean is to protect the health of users. Over the years, Phu Tho town has planned safe vegetable production into large areas, suitable for modern suburban agricultural production, convenient for care, harvesting, transportation, and consumption, creating a premise for the town’s agricultural sector to build other specialized areas.

About safe vegetable areas

Truong Thinh Agricultural Cooperative builds production models in the direction of organic, safe, and convenient production and consumption of products.

For a long time, Phu Loi village in Phu Tho town has been famous for growing vegetables, with a large area supplying vegetables, tubers, and fruits to all markets in the province. In 2012, Truong Thinh Agricultural Cooperative was established to connect people in Phu Loi village to produce safe vegetables, helping to increasingly improve the quality of vegetable products and stabilize output. In order to meet market demands, members of the cooperative are trained to improve their qualifications and techniques and master safe production processes with strict rules on the use of pesticides and biological and organic fertilizers, contributing to environmental protection and improving the health of producers and consumers.

Up to now, the cooperative’s vegetable growing area has been granted a growing area code of more than 10 hectares. The products produced by the cooperative are currently consumed at wholesale markets, town markets and neighboring markets, restaurants, and kitchens of some schools in the area. In the coming time, the cooperative will continue to accompany member households to learn from experience, improve production techniques, improve product quality, create jobs for rural workers with stable income, and contribute to the socio-economic development of the locality.

Mr. Vu Xuan Phuong, Director of Truong Thinh Agricultural Cooperative, said that currently, the cooperative has nearly 60 member households associated with safe vegetable production, creating stable jobs for dozens of local workers with an income of more than 6 million per person per month. In order to have safe and quality vegetables, the cooperative has invested in building and effectively exploiting facilities for processing, packaging, and consuming spices that meet food hygiene and safety standards. At the same time, strictly comply with the steps prescribed by VietGAP standards, from land preparation, water sources, fertilizers, planting, spraying pesticides, care to harvesting, preliminary processing...

In addition, the application of technical advances and safety and quality standards in production is increasingly being paid attention to. The whole town currently has more than 15 hectares of vegetables with growing area codes. Being granted growing area codes has helped farmers standardize the process of caring for and managing crops, improving competitiveness and expanding the consumption market. Therefore, the efficiency of vegetable production is increasingly improved in the direction of concentrated goods, ensuring food safety, and meeting market requirements.

However, the development of safe vegetable production areas in the town still has some difficulties, such as: the production scale is still small, there is a there is a lack of linkage, there is no formation of large-scale specialized concentrated production areas associated with processing and stable consumption markets according to the chain, the linkage between the development of raw material areas and processing facilities is not tight, the area certified for safety standards is still low, productivity, quality, and value of products are not commensurate with potential and advantages, and attracting businesses to invest in developing production, preservation, processing, and consumption is still difficult.

To overcome difficulties and promote existing advantages, the town’s agricultural sector focuses on prioritizing the development of specialty and indigenous vegetable varieties, organic production, supporting production and processing facilities to improve their capacity and skills in organizing production, monitoring quality, accessing markets, and providing product information; establishing, granting and managing codes for growing areas and packaging facilities to serve preliminary processing, processing, and product consumption, ensuring food safety and hygiene, meeting the demand for domestic vegetable consumption and aiming for export, contributing to increasing income for producers and protecting public health...
