Actively practicing for the Open Boating Tournament

As part of a series of activities serving the Hung Kings’ Death Anniversary - Hung Kings’ Temple Festival and Fatherland Culture and Tourism Week in the year of Dragon 2024, the Viet Tri City Open Boating Tournament will take place on April 13, 2024. (ie the 5th day of the third lunar month) at Van Lang Park lake, promising to bring people and tourists exciting and attractive competitions with high martial spirit, contributing to preserving and promoting the local traditional sports.

To conquer the “green race”, the boating teams are actively practicing at Van Lang Park lake to get familiar with the race course. Thanh Thuy district’s boating team is one of the teams participating in the Viet Tri City Open Boating Tournament since its first years of organization. Mr. Nguyen Huy Cuong - Captain of Thanh Thuy district’s boating team said: “As soon as the boating tournament is planned, we gathered 30 athletes and organized training. This year we plan to spend about seven days practicing at Van Lang Park lake to get familiar with the paddles and boating course...”.

For many consecutive years, the Cam Khe district boating team has got high achievements at the Open Boating Tournament organized by Viet Tri City. Mr. Truong Quang Thang - Captain of the Cam Khe district boating team shared: “Boating is a traditional sport in our hometown. To participate in this year’s tournament, we have selected athletes and organized training at our locality. The whole team is determined to win a high prize this season.”

Participating in this year’s Viet Tri City Open Boating Tournament are nine boating teams, including five teams from Viet Tri city, and four other teams from Tam Nong, Thanh Thuy, Cam Khe and Doan Hung districts. Each team has 30 people, including a team leader, a coach, a caretaker and 27 athletes. With a competition distance of 2.6km (with a 1.3km turnaround), the tournament will have two rounds, the qualifying round has three races, each round has three teams, the three winners in the three races and one second team with the best score will advance to the final round. The Organizing Committee of the Boating Tournament will award one First Prize, one Second Prize and two Third Prizes.

The Bach Hac ward boating team is one of five boating teams from Viet Tri City to participate in the Viet Tri City Open Boating Tournament in the year of Dragon 2024. These days, members of the team are actively practicing with the desire to continue to conquer the highest prize in this year’s competition. Mr. Nguyen Manh Ha - Chairman of Bach Hac Ward People’s Committee said: “Participating in this year’s boating tournament, we selected young and well technically trained athletes with the determination to achieve the highest results, thereby bringing pride to the locality.”

In order for the Boating Tournament to take place fairly and healthily, creating good impression in the hearts of the people and tourists making the pilgrimage to attend the Death Anniversary, the work of preparing the necessary conditions is being urgently completed by the relevant units. Mr. Hoang Viet Dung - Director of the Center for Culture, Sports and Tourism of Viet Tri City said: With the active training of the boating teams, all the stages from thorough inspection, new paint of the paddles to the equipment and facilities in service for the tournament, rescue plans, security in the organization area, medical care, racetrack safety... are carefully prepared. Up to now, the work of organizing and preparing conditions for the tournament is being carried out urgently, ensuring readiness for the opening day of the Tournament.
