Getting united for economic development, preservation and promotion of national cultural identity

Thanh Son district has 32 ethnic groups living together, of which the Muong ethnic group accounts for more than half of the district’s population, the remaining are the Dao and other ethnic minorities. Each ethnic group retains its own identity, but there is interference and solidarity, together they develop the economy, and contribute to building a developed homeland.

Mr. Pham Tu - Vice Chairman of the District People’s Committee affirmed: “Ethnic group affairs is always an important and top task that is paid attention to by the Party committees, authorities and the entire political system, with the key issues to be solved on labor, employment, poverty reduction and social security; Prioritize socio-economic development in particularly difficult areas where ethnic minorities live; At the same time, integrate national target programs, poverty reduction policies, and ethnic group policies to effectively invest in projects, contribute to improving the lives of people, maintain political security and social order, and strengthen People’s trust in the Party and State”.

In the past 5 years, the district’s socio-economic development has been quite good, the growth rate and production value each year are higher than the previous year. The economic structure is shifting in the right direction, the poverty rate has decreased by an average of 0.5%; The average income per capita has now reached 37.4 million VND/ year. The life of ethnic minorities in the district has also been improved, thereby shortening the gap with the lowlands. In the past 5 years, tens of thousands of ethnic minorities have received vocational training, got new jobs and labor export. Many poor ethnic minority families were supported to repair, build new temporary houses; Thousands of hectares of natural forests are protected. Many typical products of the ethic people such as tea, sticky rice, noodles, honey are produced organically in the direction of goods... Party committees and authorities pay special attention to training, fostering, improving professional qualifications, political theory and building a team of ethnic minority officials. To date, the proportion of district level officials from ethnic minorities accounts for 39.5%, commune level 67.8%; People’s Council representatives at district level 41.94%, commune level 68.79%.

Promoting the achieved results, in the coming time, Thanh Son district will continue to promote the patriotic emulation movement among ethnic minorities and well implement ethnic policies; Promote poverty reduction, especially for ethnic minorities in highland and extremely difficult areas; Carry out well campaigns and patriotic emulation movements, mobilize ethnic minorities to actively implement the Party’s guidelines and policies, and the State laws... contributing to economic, cultural and social development, maintaining national defense and security, and building a new, rich and beautiful life.
