Incense offering ceremony to commemorate Mother Au Co on the “Fairy’s Descending” day
On the morning of February 16 (the 7th day of the first lunar month, in the year of Dragon 2024), at the Mother Au Co Temple on the top of Oc Son mountain, the Hung Kings’ Temple Historical Relic Area held an incense offering ceremony to commemorate Mother Au Co on the “Fairy’s Descending” day.
According to the legend, on January 7, Fairy Au Co descended to earth, met and married to Lac Long Quan, then gave birth to a sac of a hundred eggs that finally hatched into a hundred sons, origin of the Lac Hong race. Mother Au Co made a great merit of teaching the local people to grow mulberries, raise silkworms, and weave fabrics, help them reclaim land and establish hamlets, making the rich and densely populated areas... When the residences were stabilized, the people knew how to do agriculture for living, Mother Au Co flew to heaven with the fellow fairies. Since then, every year people take December 25 as the day “Fairy’s ascending” and January 7 as the day “Fairy’s descending”.
At the ceremony, delegates, compatriots and tourists offered incense to commemorate and express gratitude for the merits of Mother Au Co and vowed to strive to train, unite together and promote the strength of the entire nation to build an increasingly rich and beautiful country. Also at the program, delegates and tourists attended the Mother Goddess worship ritual performed by the Lam Thao town’s worship team.
