Inspecting the situation of grapefruit tree development in Doan Hung district

On March 4, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Hai, Member of the Provincial Party Standing Committee and Vice Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee, inspected the situation of grapefruit tree development and the results of implementing the project using technological advances to build concentrated grapefruit commodity production areas in Doan Hung district.

Vice Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee Nguyen Thanh Hai visited the grapefruit garden model of Mr. Le Ngoc Van in Van Don commune.

Doan Hung district now cultivates 2,662 hectares of grapefruit, with 2,362 hectares grown during the commercial time. The area of specialized grapefruit is over 1,440 hectares, with the remainder being Dien grapefruit and other sorts of grapefruit. Grapefruit yield exceeded 146 tons per hectare; output was approximately 33,195 tons; income was estimated at more than VND300 billion.

Vice Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee Nguyen Thanh Hai attended a presentation on grapefruit tree development in Doan Hung district by the representative from the Central Plant Protection Institute discussed the use of injections to treat yellow leaves, root rot, and gum bleeding.

The district has established 95 concentrated production zones covering a total area of 1,350 hectares; there is a Grapefruit Production Association; 15 cooperatives, a cooperative group, and a chain of product consumption connections contribute to a consumption of around 2,700 tons per year. The district’s grapefruit land is progressively being transformed by households to follow the GAP safe production procedure, totaling more than 1,240 hectares. So far, the district has roughly 326 hectares accredited with VietGAP. There are 49 grapefruit growing zones with growing area codes, covering a total area of over 1,000 hectares. Doan Hung Grapefruit has two 4-star-OCOP rating products and six 3-star-OCOP rating products...

The province and district have contributed about VND12 billion to the development of grapefruit trees in 2022 and 2023, in accordance with the Provincial People’s Council’s Resolution 22/2021/NQ-HDND of December 9, 2021. However, the development of grapefruit trees in Doan Hung area continues to confront numerous obstacles in terms of unsustainable production and consumption techniques, and grapefruit goods processed are restricted. Production scale is mostly household-based, modest, and dispersed. Many hazardous pests and diseases, including yellow leaves, gum bleeding, and root rot, develop in perennial grapefruit gardens, causing tree mortality, fruit rot, and decreased quality and design...

In conclusion, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee Nguyen Thanh Hai stated that in recent years, the Doan Hung grapefruit tree has asserted its brand, value, delivered high economic efficiency, and made an important contribution to the development of agricultural and rural area in the region. To overcome limitations and improve the quality and price of Doan Hung grapefruit products, he requested that the Agriculture sector and Doan Hung district review the issued plans to have a central orientation in grapefruit tree development; the district must continue to collaborate with specialist companies to develop solutions for planning concentrated growth zones for each grapefruit type; focus on pest control and prevention; Improve and increase design quality to satisfy market needs; Evaluate the present land condition, production process, pest situation, and offer innovative methods to develop grapefruit trees more efficiently; promote the creation of production and consumption chains...
