Tan Son district is home to 19 ethnic groups, with the Muong accounting for 76.1%, the Dao for 5.6%, and the H'Mong for 0.12%. People’s lives and activities are accompanied by tangible and intangible cultural heritages imbued with their ethnic groups' identities, such as Duong Cham performance, Vi singing, Rang singing, and so on. Muong ethnic people; Chuong and Sinh Tien dances during the Dao ethnic people’s Grant Ceremony; H'Mong ethnic group dancing and playing the flute, etc.
Tan Son district has undertaken a variety of initiatives to maintain the cultural values of local ethnic groups, including: Maintaining the organization of traditional festivities. Farming festival on January 8, welcoming new rice, Culture and sports festival day of ethnic groups in Tan Son district connecting the Farming festival of Thu Cuc commune; preserving relics of Via Lua Temple, Thu Cuc commune, Cua Thanh Temple, Thach Kiet commune, Tan Temple, Minh Dai commune. Organize the collecting and preservation of ancient folk songs and scripts, offer teaching classes, and promote mass performance groups in residential areas.
The district also cooperated with the Department of Culture, Sports, and Tourism to conduct fieldwork, restore structures, and establish training workshops to teach traditional folk culture forms and recognize folk cultural artists. The district currently has 154 Duong Cham, Vi, and Rang singing groups, 17 Chuong dancing clubs, Sinh Tien dance clubs, one flute playing club, three gong playing clubs, one Xoan singing club, and 150 ethnic minority folk artists.
Regarding material culture, in recent years, the Tan Son District People’s Committee has mandated the proper implementation of relic protection, repair, and enrichment in compliance with legal laws. The district now possesses three relics: Cua Thanh Temple in Chieng, Thach Kiet commune; Via Lua Temple in Giac, Thu Cuc commune; and Tan Temple in Minh Dai commune. All relics have been granted land use rights certificates, and they serve as key cultural activities for ethnic minorities in the district during traditional holidays and New Year’s.
Along with conserving ethnic groups' cultural beauty, Tan Son district has encouraged the support, building, and coordination of cultural, artistic, and sporting movements. Cultural institutions, from district to grassroots, are steadily developed, completed, and meet fundamental needs. Currently, the district has one district-level Cultural Center, 17 commune-level Cultural Houses, and 192 residential area Cultural Houses. Cultural and artistic movements are recognized and organized on a regular basis, attracting individuals and mass arts cores to engage in performances, folk performances, and cultural exchanges that contribute to education and appreciation, preservation, and promotion of national cultural identity.
