Resolution No. 29-NQ/TU dated June 5, 2026, issued by the Standing Committee of the Provincial Party Committee on the development of Phu Tho provincial tourism for the 2026–2030 period, identifies the objective of developing tourism into a spearhead economic sector—building Phu Tho into a national cultural-festival tourism center, striving to welcome over 20 million visitors and achieve 26,500 billion VND in revenue by 2030. This serves as an important orientation, generating momentum to effectively leverage potentials and advantages while driving Ancestral Land tourism toward professional and sustainable development.
Leveraging Spatial Advantages Post-Consolidation
Following the consolidation of the three provinces of Phu Tho, Vinh Phuc, and Hoa Binh, Phu Tho brings together rich, diverse, and identity-rich tourism resources. While each locality previously held distinct strengths, resources are now connected and complementary, creating a continuous tourism space and opening up numerous development opportunities for the tourism industry.

Rarely does a locality integrate as many unique tourism values as Phu Tho does today. Highlights include the Hung Temple Historical Relic Area — a sacred symbol of the nation’s origin; Tam Dao — a famous northern resort destination; Hoa Binh Lake with its majestic riverway scenery; Xuan Son National Park, Long Coc tea hills, along with potential-rich eco-tourism and resort zones like Van Son, Mai Chau, Kim Boi, and Thanh Thuy. Resource diversity enables the province to develop multiple tourism types—ranging from cultural, historical, and spiritual to eco-tourism, resort, and community-based tourism.
The entire province currently hosts nearly 1,000 classified relics, 2 special national relic sites, 6 national treasures, and 5 UNESCO-inscribed heritages. These represent precious resources to diversify cultural, historical, faith-based, ecological, resort, community, and experiential tourism options.
In addition to rich resources, Phu Tho holds a strategic location in regional connectivity—conveniently connecting to Hanoi Capital, Noi Bai International Airport, and major economic hubs. Systems of expressways, national highways, and railways are being gradually invested in and perfected, helping shorten travel times and expand access to destinations. In the future, strategic infrastructure projects such as the Lao Cai – Hanoi – Hai Phong high-speed railway line, Ring Road 5 - Capital Region, and the road along the foot of Tam Dao Mountain will continue expanding development space, creating favorable conditions to attract investment and form inter-regional tourism corridors.
Turning Tourism into a Spearhead Economic Sector
In recent years, Phu Tho tourism has registered positive progress. Infrastructure has been progressively invested in, numerous tourism areas and spots have been formed and developed, while visitor volume and revenue have maintained positive growth momentum. However, achieved results remain disproportionate to potentials and advantages. Several tourism areas and spots lack synchronized investment; linkages between tourism zones remain limited; products are not yet truly diverse or distinct; service quality is inconsistent; and visitor stay durations alongside expenditure levels remain low.
Faced with development demands in the new phase, Resolution No. 29-NQ/TU determines tourism development along modern, professional, and sustainable directions, taking residents and tourists as the center. Tourism is positioned within the overall development of service economics, cultural industries, heritage economics, digital economics, green economics, and international integration—thereby effectively leveraging resources and creating linkages across sectors, fields, and localities.

Tam Dao — A favorite resort destination for domestic and international tourists.
According to target goals, by 2030, Phu Tho strives to welcome at least 20 million tourists, including approximately 7.8 million overnight staying guests; total tourism revenue reaching around 26,500 billion VND; possessing over 22,000 accommodation rooms, including 13 hotels rated 4-5 stars; and generating employment for approximately 30,000 direct and indirect workers. These specific indicators aim to propel tourism into one of the pillars of the service economy, increasing its contribution to GRDP growth while creating spillover effects across trade, transport, culture, agriculture, and services.
From the land of national origin, Phu Tho aims to build a national cultural-festival tourism center brand, integrating heritage values with characteristic tourism products of each region. Promoting cultural and historical values combined with leveraging natural landscape advantages, resort facilities, and community tourism will contribute to forming competitive products, extending guest stay durations, and elevating tourist spending.
During the first 9 months of 2026, provincial tourism activities unfolded actively with rich and diverse formats. The province stepped up digital transformation applications in promotion and visitor service, developing mobile applications integrated with interactive maps, service bookings, and multilingual audio guides; while organizing multiple promotion, publicity, and tourism stimulus programs to attract visitors for sightseeing and experiences.
Specifically in Q3/2026, total tourist arrivals were estimated at 2.865 million, overnight staying guests reached 945 thousand, including approximately 34.5 thousand international visitors and 910.5 thousand domestic tourists. Tourism revenue reached over 2.9 trillion VND.

Over the first 9 months of 2026, total tourist arrivals to Phu Tho were estimated at 13.4 million, reaching 110% compared to the same period last year; overnight staying guests reached approximately 4.16 million, including 108,525 international visitors and 4,052,625 domestic tourists. Tourism revenue reached nearly 13.7 trillion VND, standing at 111% compared to the same period last year. |
With rich tourism resources, vast development space following consolidation, and high political determination across the entire political system, business community, and residents, Phu Tho stands before a significant opportunity to create a breakthrough in tourism development.
