The “golden” hope of the Land of Ancestors Athletics

In recent years, Phu Tho Sports has always “introduced” excellent athletes in most key sports. Although it did not leave its mark on records, it has left many big surprises for its direct competitors. In particular, athlete Ha Thi Thuy Hang is one of the outstanding young faces of Phu Tho Athletics in particular and the Vietnam National Team in general.

Although she just entered the professional sports path at the Phu Tho Athletics Team at the end of 2019, through the process of training and efforts, the young girl from Tan Son has won many impressive achievements in domestic and international competitions. In 2023, Thuy Hang won a gold medal in the long jump event at the Southeast Asian Youth Athletics Championship held in Thailand with a result of 5:81. This is a very valuable medal because, in the past 13 years, Phu Tho Athletics has not won any medals in any tournaments it has participated in. Not stopping there, she continued to maintain stability with a gold medal in the long jump event at the 13th Southeast Asian Student Sports Festival in 2024, held in Da Nang City last June, with an impressive achievement of 5.92 m. Thus contributing significantly to helping the Vietnam Athletics Team rank first overall.

Not only that, Thuy Hang also competed excellently in domestic competitions when she won a double gold medal at the National Youth Athletics Championships in both the long jump and triple jump events. Then, at the Ho Chi Minh City Thong Nhat Speed Cup Athletics Tournament in 2023, Thuy Hang continued to win another gold medal with a record jump of 6 m. It is worth mentioning that this 6 m 12 achievement surpassed the parameters of the athlete who won the bronze medal at the 32nd SEA Games and was only 1 cm behind the silver medal.

The 5.92-meter jump brought the gold medal to athlete Ha Thi Thuy Hang at the 2024 Southeast Asian Student Sports Festival.

Athlete Ha Thi Thuy Hang shared: "The record achieved at the Ho Chi Minh City Unified Speed Cup last year was not the best achievement because at that time I had just undergone injury treatment. I feel that I still have to learn and improve myself, especially in terms of physical strength and technique in competition. Under the guidance and dedicated teaching of the coaches, I will try to overcome my limitations and promote my strengths to compete well in the coming time. Thereby, aiming to win a place to participate in the 33rd SEA Games in Thailand in 2025".

Born in 2006 and just turned 18, this young girl already has a height of 1 m 78. Thanks to her impressive performance in youth competitions across the country, Thuy Hang was called up to the National Youth Athletics Team in August 2022, when she was only 16 years old. Trained and coached in a professional and systematic environment at the National Sports Training Center in Hanoi, Thuy Hang quickly showed progress in her indicators and professional parameters to reach the threshold of a national athlete. With very impressive personal achievements in the past two years, it can be said that Thuy Hang has enough potential to develop and become the No. 1 athlete in Vietnam in the long jump event if she maintains her current efforts and makes proper investments.

Sharing about his excellent student, Head Coach of Phu Tho Athletics Team Vi Duc Cuong said: "I highly appreciate Hang’s development potential because, in addition to her very good qualities in height, physique, strength, and speed, she also shows diligence, enthusiasm, and passion in training. Hang herself is also considered by experts to be one of the potential young athletes of the country. Therefore, she needs to make more efforts and strictly follow the training plan of the teachers at the National Sports Training Center in Hanoi to avoid unfortunate injuries before important tournaments".

Athletics is a basic sport in the Olympic competition system, and it is very difficult for athletes to win medals. Therefore, the impressive achievements that the young girl from Tan Son has achieved in recent years not only mark a big step forward for Phu Tho Athletics after a long period of persistent training but also open up many hopes and expectations for the team and Thuy Hang personally to aim for higher goals, which in the immediate future are the SEA Games or the Olympic arena.
