Ceremony Recognizing the Nguyen Hang Temple as a Provincial Historical and Cultural Relic

On April 18, the People’s Committee of Xuan Lung Commune, in collaboration with the Nguyen Ma Noi family lineage, held a ceremony to receive the Provincial Historical and Cultural Relic Status Certificate for the Nguyen Hang Temple. The event also marked the launch of the Nguyen Hang Talent Promotion Fund.

The ceremony was attended by the following dignitaries: Mr. Nguyen Van Binh – former Member of the Politburo, former Secretary of the Party Central Committee, and former Head of the Central Economic Commission; Mr. Nguyen Kim Anh – former Deputy Governor of the State Bank of Vietnam; Mr. Nguyen Manh Son – Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee; Mr. Duong Hoang Huong – Member of the Provincial Party Standing Committee and Director of the Department of Culture, Sports, and Tourism; Mr. Nguyen Huy Ngọc – Member of the Provincial Party Committee and Vice Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee; along with leaders from various provincial departments and agencies.

The temple honors Nguyen Hang, a renowned literary figure and an elite son of the Nguyen Ma Noi lineage from Xuan Lung. He was a prominent Confucian scholar of the 15th-16th centuries, celebrated for his profound erudition, noble character, and reclusive yet virtuous lifestyle. Following his passing, the Le Trung Hung dynasty posthumously conferred upon him the title “Thao Mao Dat Si” (The Hermit of Thao Mao) and granted land for his worship in his hometown. His descendants and the local community subsequently built the temple, naming it “Dat Si Tu”.

Since 2024, the family council and descendants have collectively funded the restoration of the temple and mausoleum, adhering to the traditional architectural style of the Le Trung Hung era. The official provincial ranking of the temple is a prestigious recognition of the site’s historical and cultural significance, serving to honor ancestral merits and educate younger generations on local history.

During the ceremony, Director of the Department of Culture, Sports, and Tourism Duong Hoang Huong affirmed that the Nguyen Hang Temple has become a shared heritage of Phu Tho. He emphasized that the site enriches the “Journey to the Roots” for tourists during the Hung Temple Festival, showcasing the cultural tradition of the Ancestral Land. He urged local authorities to preserve the site’s original space and promote it as a “red address” for traditional education.

On this occasion, the Nguyen Ma Noi lineage officially launched the Nguyen Hang Talent Promotion Fund. Immediately following the launch, the fund received over 20 donations totaling nearly 600 million VND.
