Built upon a strong industrial foundation established over many years and enhanced by new advantages following administrative consolidation, Phu Tho is now presented with a significant opportunity to emerge as a major industrial growth pole in Vietnam’s Northern Midlands and Mountainous Region. With a development strategy focused on modern, green industry, increased technological content, and higher value-added production, industry continues to be identified as the key pillar driving economic restructuring and supporting the province’s goal of rapid and sustainable growth.

Industry Creates Momentum for Economic Growth
Phu Tho is witnessing a strong transformation of its economy toward industrialization and modernization. Industry not only contributes directly to GRDP growth but also generates positive spillover effects on trade, services, urbanization, and employment quality.
According to the Provincial Statistics Office, during the first five months of 2026, the Industrial Production Index (IIP) increased by 24.69% compared to the same period last year. This impressive growth reflects the strong recovery of manufacturing activities and the renewed dynamism of key industrial sectors. In particular, the processing and manufacturing industry remained the primary growth driver, recording a 25.63% increase. This sector generates substantial added value, plays a critical role in economic restructuring, and enhances the province’s competitiveness.
Several major industrial products recorded remarkable growth, including laptop computers, up 47.2%; electronic component manufacturing services, up 33.3%; beer production, up 22%; cement, up 21.9%; and motorcycles, up 14.6%.
These figures demonstrate that Phu Tho’s industrial sector is developing in a diversified manner, with high-tech products, electronics, and components gradually becoming new pillars alongside traditional manufacturing industries. The rapid growth of electronics manufacturing also reflects the ongoing restructuring of global supply chains. As businesses seek locations with modern infrastructure, a stable investment environment, and strong regional connectivity, Phu Tho is gaining greater opportunities to integrate more deeply into international production networks.
Alongside the expansion of production capacity, employment quality within the industrial sector has also improved. Statistics show that the number of employees working in industrial enterprises as of May 2026 increased by 10.6% year-on-year, indicating that industry is creating more stable jobs, contributing to higher incomes and labor restructuring.
By expanding industrial development space in terms of scale, land resources, and industrial ecosystems, Phu Tho is building stronger connections among different areas to establish integrated value chains. This strategic approach helps attract foreign direct investment (FDI), improve competitiveness, and accelerate sustainable economic restructuring.
During the first five months of 2026, the province licensed 15 new FDI projects with total registered capital of USD 307.2 million, 3.5 times higher than the same period last year. This reflects the growing attractiveness of the local investment environment, particularly amid the global shift of investment capital toward localities capable of meeting demands for infrastructure, skilled labor, and green production.
In addition to the FDI sector, domestic investment has also grown positively. The province attracted 36 domestic investment projects with total registered capital of VND 12.421 trillion. Growth in both domestic and foreign investment demonstrates increasing confidence in Phu Tho’s business environment and its long-term development potential.
To establish a foundation for a new growth cycle, the province is focusing on improving industrial park infrastructure, reforming administrative procedures, accelerating site clearance, and enhancing business support services. At the same time, public investment continues to serve as an important development catalyst. During the first five months of 2026, locally managed state-budget investment reached approximately VND 8.132 trillion, an increase of 2.9% compared to the previous year, primarily allocated to transportation projects, technical infrastructure, and production-supporting facilities.
Towards a Modern, Green, and High-Value Industrial Economy
One of the most significant changes in Phu Tho’s industrial development strategy is the shift from attracting investment based on quantity to building a high-quality industrial ecosystem.
A modern industrial park requires more than a large number of factories; it must foster linkages among FDI enterprises, domestic companies, educational institutions, and supporting service providers. Such connections create production value chains, increase localization rates, and retain greater added value within the local economy.
According to Mr. Hoang Long Bien, Head of the Provincial Industrial Parks Management Board, the province prioritizes attracting industries capable of generating long-term growth momentum, including electronics, component manufacturing, supporting industries, precision engineering, smart manufacturing, and energy-efficient industries. These sectors align well with global supply chain restructuring trends, as businesses increasingly emphasize technology, governance, and environmental standards.
Current industrial competition is no longer determined solely by land availability or labor costs. Sustainable advantages increasingly depend on infrastructure quality, innovation capacity, technical workforce availability, and local readiness to meet the evolving requirements of modern production.
Therefore, alongside industrial park development, Phu Tho is shifting its focus from expanding scale to improving growth quality. The province is investing in workforce development to meet the demands of advanced manufacturing while encouraging enterprises to adopt new technologies, accelerate digital transformation, modernize management practices, and enhance competitiveness.
These efforts also provide a foundation for domestic enterprises to participate more deeply in the supply chains of multinational corporations and high-tech industrial projects, creating sustainable growth momentum for the local economy.
Another long-term priority is strengthening the role of domestic enterprises. As local businesses move into higher-value stages of production, the industrial sector will gradually transition from simple assembly and processing toward technology ownership, product development, and productivity enhancement.
At the same time, green industry has become a new standard for investment attraction. Efficient energy use, emissions reduction, clean technologies, and sustainable production models are no longer solely environmental requirements but are increasingly essential for maintaining access to international markets.
The essence of the “leading role” envisioned for industry in Phu Tho lies not merely in production growth but in its ability to drive economic transformation toward modernization. Industry is expected to become a pillar that generates stable revenues, improves labor productivity, builds integrated production-service ecosystems, expands employment opportunities, and promotes urban development.
In this context, industrial development is not simply about attracting projects; it is about creating a foundation for enhancing competitiveness and strengthening the province’s economic position in a new era of development.
With a growing manufacturing base, expanding investment flows, and a strategy focused on quality and depth, industry is becoming the central force in Phu Tho’s economic restructuring process. More than just a key economic sector, industry is paving the way for a new growth model that is faster, more efficient, and more sustainable.
