The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism has officially recognized two traditional festivals in Phu Tho province as National Intangible Cultural Heritages: the traditional festival, social customs, and beliefs of the Muong people in Thu Cuc commune, and the Cocoon-Robbing Festival in Di Nau commune (now Tho Van commune).

The Doi Festival, also known as the “Going to the Fields” Festival, is a significant traditional celebration of the Muong ethnic group in Thu Cuc commune. Held annually on the 7th and 8th days of the first lunar month, the festival is deeply rooted in agricultural beliefs. It includes rituals praying for bountiful harvests, blessings, and the preservation of rice varieties, and it expresses gratitude to both nature and ancestors for their protection and generosity.
The Cocoon-Robbing Festival is an ancient celebration associated with the social life, production customs, fertility beliefs, and daily activities of the people of Di Nau. This festival is held from the 4th to the 6th day of the first lunar month and has been preserved through generations as a reflection of community values and spiritual traditions.

These two newly recognized heritages stand as vivid proof of the province’s ongoing efforts to safeguard and promote its rich cultural legacy, the homeland of the Hung Kings, where traditional values continue to thrive alongside modern development.
