On May 26, the opening ceremony of the 2025 National Age Group Swimming and Diving Championship was held at the Aquatic Sports Arena of the Tien Giang Province Sports Training and Competition Center. After six days of intense competition, the Phu Tho Swimming and Diving Team secured nine gold and six silver medals, finishing fifth overall among 34 participating delegations.
Rising star Nguyen Hoang Linh was the standout performer, claiming eight golds and five silvers, contributing significantly to Phu Tho’s impressive tally.
The championship took place from May 20 to 30 in Tien Giang Province, drawing 354 athletes from 34 provinces and cities nationwide. Phu Tho sent a contingent of 16 athletes competing across various swimming and diving events.
In the swimming category, Nguyen Hoang Linh and Jessica Nguyen brought home a combined total of 16 medals. Linh dominated in multiple disciplines—winning gold in the 50m backstroke, 50m freestyle, 200m freestyle, 400m freestyle, 200m medley, 400m medley, 200m backstroke, and 800m freestyle, in addition to five silver medals. Meanwhile, Jessica Nguyen added one gold and one silver in the 50m and 100m butterfly events, respectively.
With a total haul of nine golds and six silvers, Phu Tho placed fifth overall at this year’s national tournament—a remarkable achievement reflecting the team’s growth and potential.
As of the end of May 26, the swimming events concluded with Phu Tho ranked fifth out of 34 teams. On May 27, the focus shifts to diving, where the province hopes to leverage the strength of its homegrown athletes to add more medals and climb higher in the final standings.
