Ready to welcome tourists

baophutho.vnPhu Tho, the ancestral land of the Vietnamese people, is home to a vast and invaluable cultural heritage. Of the nearly 260 annual festivals, about 150 take place in January. Recognizing the Lunar New Year as a prime opportunity to promote spiritual and cultural tourism, Phu Tho has meticulously prepared a diverse range of events and activities, along with enhanced facilities and human resources at key tourist sites and attractions. As a result, the province promises to be a vibrant destination, especially during the upcoming 9-day Lunar New Year holiday (At Ty 2025).

Attractive tourism “resources”

Phu Tho is a province rich in traditional culture, hosting hundreds of unique festivals, many of which are deeply rooted in spirituality, particularly the worship of the Hung Kings. Festivals are held throughout the province but are primarily concentrated in spring, especially during and after Tet until the end of January, symbolizing prayers for a joyful and prosperous new year. Leveraging this strength, spiritual and cultural tourism has emerged as a key attraction, drawing visitors to Phu Tho at the start of the New Year.

Various tourism products and spring travel routes in the Ancestral Land, including tours to Au Co Temple (Ha Hoa District), Hung Temple, Hung Lo Ancient Village (Viet Tri City), Thanh Thuy Hot Spring Tourist Area, Lang Suong Temple (Thanh Thuy District), Ao Chau Lagoon, and Doan Hung Grapefruit Garden, have been actively promoted and maintained by the provincial tourism sector. These efforts, in collaboration with tourism promotion centers and travel agencies, have effectively attracted a large number of visitors during and after the Lunar New Year.

According to the Department of Culture, Sports, and Tourism, during the Lunar New Year of Giap Thin in 2024, Phu Tho welcomed nearly 565,000 tourists from both inside and outside the province to visit and explore its various tourist attractions. The number of overnight visitors was approximately 11,180. The average occupancy rate of hotels and lodgings was around 45%, while tourism service revenue reached an estimated 121.8 billion VND.

Recognizing the Lunar New Year holiday as a peak period for spring travel, sightseeing, worship, and relaxation, districts, cities, and towns across the province have proactively released schedules for cultural, sports, and tourism events. These activities, particularly traditional folk performances and recreational programs, are designed to align with national cultural traditions and customs. Additionally, tourist resorts and attractions have introduced a diverse range of unique products and services to cater to both locals and visitors.

In particular, the 2025 New Year celebration in Viet Tri City, along with cultural programs and early spring festivals across districts and towns, has garnered significant attention from tourists. Spring travel services, combined with relaxation at various tourist destinations, have also been well received.

Notable events include the Au Co Temple Festival (Hien Luong Commune, Ha Hoa District) on January 6-7, the “Hat Xoan in the Ancient Village” program at Lai Len Temple, Dinh Thet (Kim Duc Commune), An Thai Communal House (Phuong Lau Commune), and Hung Lo Communal House (Hung Lo Commune) in Viet Tri City.

Visitors can also experience the Spring Fair, wrap banh chung, request calligraphy from masters, and play folk games from January 2-4 at Vuon Vua Resort & Villas Phu Tho (Thanh Thuy District). Additionally, tourists can enjoy resort services, visit the Golden Pagoda, and write wish cards for peace and luck at the beginning of the year at Wyndham Lynn Times Thanh Thuy.

Mr. Nguyen Van Tuyen, Director of Hung Vuong Joint Stock Company (Viet Tri City), stated that for many years, the company has actively developed and promoted Spring-Tet festival tours. These tours provide both domestic and international tourists with opportunities to immerse themselves in the joyful atmosphere of spring and celebrate the traditional New Year alongside the people of the Ancestral Land.

Visitors can participate in a variety of activities, including sightseeing at historical and cultural relics, engaging in village festivals, and enjoying spring vacations across the province.

According to the company’s customer survey, most of the tourists participating in tours during and after the Lunar New Year holiday are domestic tourists. With the diversity of spiritual and cultural tourism products and resorts, the tourism market during Tet and January festivals has been creating momentum to stimulate tourism demand, promoting the excitement of spring tour products in Phu Tho.

Efforts to prepare

This year, the early announcement of the 9-day Lunar New Year holiday not only provides tourists with more travel options but also allows localities, cultural and tourist sites, and travel businesses to develop plans, prepare facilities, and allocate human resources. These efforts help manage visitor distribution and reduce pressure on transportation and tour guides during peak travel days.

To ensure that all preparations are carried out in a coordinated and effective manner, the Department of Culture, Sports, and Tourism has issued directives and guidelines instructing localities, management boards of tourist sites, and travel businesses to develop plans and proactively prepare the necessary conditions to accommodate tourists.

In particular, the department emphasizes the need for local authorities to strengthen government oversight and destination management. It calls for regular inspections to ensure the quality of tourism services at hotels, tourist attractions, restaurants, entertainment venues, passenger transport businesses, and tour guide activities. Additionally, measures must be implemented to ensure security and safety for tourists, while close coordination with relevant authorities is required to detect, prevent, and promptly address legal violations that may impact tourism activities.

As the locality that kicks off the province’s spring festival season, Ha Hoa District has announced a series of cultural events in advance as part of the Au Co Temple Festival, which will take place from December 25 (Giap Thin year) to January 7 (At Ty year). Highlights include the incense offering ceremony to Au Co Ancestor on December 25, the opening program of the Au Co Temple Festival along with traditional activities such as wrapping and cooking banh chung and pounding banh giay on January 6, and the incense offering ceremony on Tien Giang Day (January 7). These early announcements allow travel businesses and tourists to plan accordingly.

Nguyen Hong Thao, head of the Department of Culture and Information of Ha Hoa District, stated that Ha Hoa District is expected to welcome over 3,500 visitors to attend the Spring Festival this year. Currently, all works to improve the landscape, environment, and festivities at Au Co Temple Relic Site; work to ensure security, order, traffic safety, food safety and hygiene, and accommodation services at destinations in the district are being urgently completed.

The province currently has over 300 accommodation establishments, including 32 hotels with a total of 892 rooms. To accommodate the influx of tourists during the Lunar New Year 2025, the People’s Committees of urban districts are actively directing hotels, resorts, and homestays to strictly comply with fire safety regulations, allocate sufficient staff and resources, and ensure food safety and hygiene. Thanks to thorough preparations, the Spring-Lunar New Year 2025 tourism activities are expected to enhance Phu Tho’s appeal as a culturally rich destination. These efforts will not only showcase the province’s vibrant spiritual and cultural tourism offerings but also leave a lasting impression on visitors from around the world.
