The 11th Chung cake (square glutinous rice cake) and Giay cake (glutinous rice cake) making contest was launched at the Hung King Temple historical relic site on April 16 (lunar March 8th), as part of the Hung Kings Temple Festival 2024. Ms. Nguyen Thi Thanh Huyen, a member of the Provincial Party Standing Committee and the Head of the Provincial Party Committee’s Mass Mobilization Committee attended the event.

The tournament featured 13 FCTs from 13 districts, cities and town around the province, participating in the wrapping 5kg of glutinous rice, 1kg of green beans, and 1kg of pork into 10 square chung cakes for no more than 8 minutes, then boiling the cakes within 5 hours; Cooking 5kg of glutinous rice for 30 minutes at the most, then pounding and molding it into 10 giay cakes within another 15 minutes.
Viet Tri FCT won first place in this year’s contest.
Yen Lap FCT received the First Prize in pounding Giay cake.
The Organizing Committee gave awards to the FCTs competing in Giay cake pounding competition.
The contest aims to recreate the contest of making offerings to ancestors from ancient times. The event also aims to arouse pride in history, show filial piety to ancestors, parents and great solidarity, contributing to the preservation and promotion of the distinctive values of the cultural legacy of the Hung King period, as well as the Hung King worship in Phu Tho.

The Organizing Committee gave the First Prize to Viet Tri FCT for wrapping and cooking chung cake, 3 Second Prizes to three FCTs in districts of Lam Thao, Cam Khe and Phu Tho town, and 9 Third Prizes to others. In pounding giay cake, the top prize went to the Yen Lap FCT; 3 second awards went to FCTs of districts of Thanh Ba, Ha Hoa and Tam Nong and 9 third prizes to others.

Through the contest, the organising committee selected the first prize for Chung cake and Giay cake to offer to the Hung Kings during the Hung King’s Death Anniversary and Hung King Temple Festival in 2025.
