On January 26, 1964, the Party Committee, authorities, and people of Vinh Quang commune (currently known as Dao Xa commune) in Thanh Thuy district were honored to welcome Uncle Ho to visit after achieving outstanding results in implementing President Ho Chi Minh’s call for “Tet Tree Planting,” greening bare land and bare hills.
The Dao Xa communal house, where Uncle Ho spoke to officials, party members, and commune residents, and reminded them to “remodel and preserve it to serve as a historical relic and meeting place,” has now been designated a National Cultural Monument.
The movement to plant trees in response to President Ho Chi Minh’s call is still being maintained and expanded to a new level, taking into account practical conditions and improving economic efficiency and value. On December 1, 2020, the Party Committee of Dao Xa commune issued Resolution No. 17-NQ/ĐU on the economic development of forest hills in the period 2021–2025. The people support the Party’s will, and the potential of the commune’s hilly and forest land is being exploited and effectively utilized, with 30ha of tea producing 180 tons per year, worth 2.7 billion VND and 30ha of paint producing 8.8 tons, worth 3.1 billion VND per year. Along with that, 760-800ha of forestry trees generate approximately 25-30 billion VND in annual exploitation revenue.
Agricultural production is still regarded as an important pillar. Each year, the commune maintains a planted area of over 400ha of rice, nearly 130ha of corn, more than 100ha of cassava, and approximately 140ha of crops of various types. Food security is ensured with an average of 268.8kg per person each year, in addition to feeding over 2,500 buffalos and cows, and approximately 6,500 pigs. Industrial production, handicraft, trade, and service activities have increased significantly, accounting for 64.1%. Businesses have thrived in recent years, creating jobs for residents as well as small factories, shops, and busy shops throughout the commune. Dao Xa people’s lives are improving, with the current average annual income at 56.4 million VND. The percentage of poor households has fallen to 2.91%.
After completing the goal of building new rural areas in 2018, Dao Xa’s goal is now to continue to strive and build communes that meet advanced and exemplary new rural standards.
Proud to have Uncle Ho visit, Dao Xa’s hometown has worked hard to fulfill his wishes and teachings, resulting in the creation of a new, beautiful, and peaceful life.
