Chieng Noi Preserves Muong Cultural Heritage

Chieng Noi Hamlet in Thanh Son Commune, Phu Tho Province is home to more than 70% Muong ethnic residents who have preserved many unique cultural features, from language, traditional costumes, and folk performing arts to the distinctive stilt houses. Particularly, the effective operation of the Chieng Noi Muong Ethnic Cultural Club has played an important role in safeguarding and promoting the beauty of Muong culture.

The Chieng Noi Muong ethnic cultural Club has over 50 members who regularly perform Muong gong e at cultural events of Phu Tho province and Thanh Son commune.

Members of the Chieng Noi Muong ethnic cultural Club perform the drum-stamping dance (dam duong) at the Thach Khoan Communal House Festival.

Out of love for their ethnic culture, Ms. Nguyen Thi Kim Yen—Head of the Muong Ethnic Cultural Club and other members have been teaching traditional Muong dances to the younger generation.

A traditional Muong stilt house, built with contributions from residents within the Chieng Noi community cultural house compound, serves as a communal gathering space and exhibition area for traditional musical instruments, costumes, and typical Muong farming tools.
