Dam Vac is often likened to a “green jewel” for its vital role in regulating the climate and reducing flooding in Vinh Yen and Vinh Phuc wards. Beyond its environmental importance, the lake is also famed for its abundant aquatic resources and tranquil, poetic scenery—making it an ideal destination for those who love eco-tourism and relaxation.

Dam Vac - The green jewel in the heart of the city
Dam Vac is a natural lake with a water surface area of more than 48 square kilometers and a maximum depth of about 4.5 meters. It was formed from the widened section of the Canh River, featuring 23 main branches spreading across Vinh Yen and Vinh Phuc wards. This creates a diverse ecosystem and a uniquely refreshing green space in the middle of the city.
Playing an essential role in climate regulation and flood control for the surrounding areas, Dam Vac is not only a natural reservoir but also a symbol of balance between nature and urban life.
The name “Dam Vac” originates from the large number of birds inhabiting the lake, particularly the vạc (night heron), which is the most common species found here. Hence, locals have long called this vast body of water “Dam Vac” - the Lake of Herons.
The lake boasts a rich source of aquatic produce. Its lush vegetation and picturesque landscape form a scenic highlight of the urban area, offering residents and visitors a peaceful retreat from the city’s hustle and bustle a place to slow down, unwind, and appreciate the beauty of life.
Leveraging the area’s natural beauty, pleasant climate, and abundant ecological potential, many businesses have invested billions of dong in recent years to build restaurants, hotels, golf courses, and shopping centers—transforming Dam Vac into one of the most vibrant leisure and resort hubs in Phu Tho Province. Notable establishments include Song Hong Resort, Westlake Hotel & Resort, and Dam Vac Golf Course.
Mr. Ta Duc Cuong - Deputy General Director of Song Hong Thu Do Group, shared: “Dam Vac is a precious gift bestowed upon Phu Tho by nature. Its ecosystem has the power to heal the soul and offer visitors meaningful experiences. Harnessing these natural advantages, Song Hong Thu Do Group has invested in the Song Hong Thu Do Ecological Tourism Area to serve tourists’ needs for accommodation, recreation, and entertainment.”
According to Ms. Tran Thi Thu Huyen - Deputy Head of the Department of Culture and Society of Vinh Yen Ward: “Located about 60 kilometers from downtown Hanoi and easily accessible via major roads, Dam Vac is an ideal getaway for visitors seeking relaxation on weekends.”
To preserve and promote the value of Dam Vac in conjunction with tourism development, in the coming time, Vinh Yen Ward will continue to coordinate with relevant departments and agencies to advise and propose that the Provincial People’s Committee allocate resources for developing Dam Vac’s tourism infrastructure and expanding entertainment and recreational services. At the same time, the locality will strengthen public awareness campaigns to encourage both residents and visitors to protect biodiversity and preserve the area’s natural landscape.
