In the final days of October, the roads leading to the “orange capital” of Cao Phong are filled with a bustling, festive atmosphere. A new harvest season has officially begun, bringing not only the distinctive flavor of this famed specialty from the Muong region but also hopes for another prosperous year.

The 2025 Cao Phong orange harvest season has officially started, expected to deliver tens of thousands of tons of premium-quality fruit to the market.
As the largest orange-growing area in the Northwest region, Cao Phong has shown remarkable recovery and growth in recent years. Retail prices currently range from 25,000 to 30,000 VND per kilogram.
According to Mr. Hoang Van Luong, Head of the Market Planning Department of Cao Phong Hoa Binh One Member Limited Liability Company, the enterprise manages about 390 hectares of citrus crops (contracted to 1,600 households), of which 170 hectares are in full production. The main varieties include Golden Heart orange, accounting for 70%, and Canh orange around 20%. All households strictly follow production procedures that meet VietGAP standards.
The entire Cao Phong orange area covers approximately 1.700 - 1.800 hectares, with an annual yield of tens of thousands of tons. The fruit’s consistent quality and strong market demand have reinforced the orange tree’s position as a key crop that delivers substantial economic value.
This year’s harvest began in September with the On Chau mandarin variety and will continue until April next year with other orange varieties. In recent seasons, selling prices have remained stable, reflecting the true value of the product. Notably, Sweet Canh orange maintains a high price, ranging from 60.000 - 70.000 VND per kilogram at the orchard, while Golden Heart orange sells for 25.000 - 30.000 VND per kilogram.
Thanks to its unique soil and climatic conditions, Cao Phong oranges possess a flavor found nowhere else. To help consumers avoid confusion or counterfeit products, local growers, cooperatives, and authorities recommend buying from reputable distribution systems, placing online orders directly with orchards, or selecting products with clear packaging, labels, and especially electronic traceability codes and the “Cao Phong Orange” Geographical Indication logo.
Today, Cao Phong oranges are not only a renowned agricultural specialty but also an increasingly popular tourism product. Every year, during the ripening season, thousands of visitors eagerly travel to Cao Phong to enjoy the sweet fragrance and vibrant orchards.
To enhance the brand and transform this signature crop into a distinctive tourism symbol, the annual Cao Phong Orange Festival is organized to promote and facilitate trade. Currently, Cao Phong Commune is preparing for the 2025 festival, expected to take place at the end of November. Comprehensive measures are being implemented to maximize the value of the orange crop, aiming to attract more tourists to the region to savor the rich, sweet flavor of this beloved Mường specialty.
