Phung Nguyen Commune: “Duck Catching Swimming” Game Creates Strong Appeal During September 2 Holiday

On September 1, the Youth Union of Phung Nguyen Commune coordinated the organization of the “Duck Catching Swimming” game at Uncle Ho’s Fish Pond (Son Vi 2 Village). This was a special activity within a series of events organized by the commune to celebrate the 81st anniversary of the National Day of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam (September 2, 1945 – September 2, 2026).

Along with women’s air volleyball tournaments, friendly football matches, and musical performances in local villages, the “Duck Catching Swimming” game contributed to creating a joyful and lively atmosphere during the holiday, attracting a large number of local residents and visitors.

The organizing committee released 60 ducks into the pond for residents and tourists to experience the “Duck Catching Swimming” game.

To carry out the game, the organizing committee released 60 ducks into the pond for players to catch. Participants were required to be in good health and know how to swim. Without dividing into teams or deciding winners and losers, the reward was simply the number of ducks each player managed to catch. The game attracted a large crowd of participants, especially skilled and agile young men. Many residents and tourists gathered around the event area to cheer, creating a vibrant and joyful atmosphere for National Day on September 2.

“Duck Catching Swimming” is a traditional game organized annually in Phung Nguyen Commune. With the belief that each duck caught brings good luck to oneself and family, the game conveys the people’s wishes for a favorable agricultural production season, good harvests, and healthy offspring in the family.

At the same time, this is also a practical activity that helps residents practice physical fitness, strength, and swimming skills, fostering a spirit of solidarity within the community.
