Previously, the sloping land in Thu Cuc commune yielded low agricultural productivity. Recognizing that the soil and climate were suitable for fruit tree cultivation, some farmers in Nga Hai and Khu Con areas boldly switched to growing oranges and tangerines, bringing high economic efficiency and generating income of several hundred million dong per year.
As the Lunar New Year approaches, visitors to Thu Cuc can easily spot gardens of “yellow-heart” oranges, Canh oranges, and Thai tangerines laden with fruit, glowing bright yellow across the hillsides. This vibrant scenery not only signals a prosperous Spring but also confirms that oranges and tangerines have become the “sweet fruits” of the Thu Cuc highlands.

Brilliant orange and tangerine gardens blanket the hillsides.

The 9-hectare garden of Mrs. Dang Thi Yen’s family (Con area) primarily grows Thai tangerines, Canh oranges, and V2 oranges.

Late-ripening tangerines harvested near Tet offer high economic value.

The “Muong Cuc” orange and tangerine brand is taking shape, becoming a popular local gift choice.

The garden of Mr. Duc and Mrs. Yen yields approximately 70-80 tons of fruit per year.

Golden-ripe tangerines with a refreshing sweetness.

Over 1 hectare of Canh and yellow-heart oranges owned by Mr. Ha Van Doan’s family (Nga Hai area) is farmed organically and has begun to provide a stable harvest.

Thin-skinned and sweet Canh oranges.

Due to the heavy clusters of fruit, Mr. Doan uses branch-propping and tying techniques to protect the trees.

The gardens are currently in peak harvest season, supplying provinces such as Quang Ninh, Son La, Thanh Hoa, and Hanoi.

These fruit-laden gardens are becoming favorite “check-in” spots for visitors.
