Approving the Project of the adjusted general planning of Viet Tri City to 2040: Building Viet Tri to become a central city in the region, a pole of development in the West

On October 30th 2023, the Provincial People's Council issued Resolution No. 18/NQ-HDND on approving the Project of the adjusted general planning of Viet Tri City to 2040. Accordingly, the goal of the adjusted general planning is to concretize the planning orientation of Phu Tho Province for the period to 2030 with a vision to 2050; is the basis for building Viet Tri city to become a central city of the province (urban area of class I), regional center, pole of development in the northwest of Hanoi capital.

Viet Tri City aims to build an overall tourist city, an ecological, civilized and modern green urban area.

Its development orientation follows the structural model “One corridor, one belt, one green space”

According the Project of the adjusted general planning of Viet Tri City to 2040, the overall spatial structure, central system and city space are oriented to develop according to the structural model "One corridor; one belt; one green space”. Taking the spatial axis of the Festival on being back to the original point of the Vietnamese nation from Hung Temple to Bach Hac junction as the official development corridor, surrounded by a green belt associated with two large rivers.

Overview of the whole city is a green space, harmoniously connecting rural and urban spaces and riverside spaces to become an impressive cultural - historical - ecological landscape, characteristics of the ancestral land. Developing the city into a tourist destination for National Cultural and Historical Festivals, which is peaceful and in harmony with the unique cultural landscape space of Vietnam. Overall, it is a tourist city, an ecological, civilized and modern green urban area. Its construction planning criteria meet urban standards of class I.

Based on the landscape characteristics, functions and activities of each area, the spatial development orientation of the whole city is made into 8 subdivisions with their own functions and orientations, including: Hung Temple Special Historical Relic Area; Existing urban center - Administrative and political center; Urban - Trade - (Smart) Service complex of the northern gateway; Tourism - service urban area (green development) in the East; High-tech complex - smart urban area; Urban area of industrial support services; Eco-village in combination with tourism services and a strip of riverside space.

The whole city includes 3 main landscape regions: Region 1 focuses on the Hung Temple historical relic area - Nghia Linh mountain area. Region 2 is the center of the existing wards, a strip of land along both sides of Hung Vuong and Nguyen Tat Thanh street. Region 3 is the belt along the Red River and Lo River, including a strip of mixed urban areas along the river (outside the dyke).

According to the project, the planning scope is the entire administrative boundary of Viet Tri city, including 13 wards and 9 communes; The natural area is about 111.49km2. Until 2030, it is expected to establish two more urban wards, Trung Vuong and Phuong Lau.

In terms of urban nature, Viet Tri is a national historical and cultural tourist city, a place that preserves the heritage values of the Vietnamese nation; is the capital city of Phu Tho province, one of the centers of science - technology, education - training, health, culture and sports of the Northern Midlands and Mountains region; is a trading hub and an important development pole in the Northwest of Hanoi Capital region; a key strategic areas for national defense and security.

The population size of the entire city is forecast to be about 380,000 people until 2030, of which the urban population is about 250,00 people. Until 2040, the city’s population will be about 500,000 people, of which the urban population will be about 440,000 people.

In relation to the land scale, until 2030, the urban construction land will be about 5,074 hectares, of which the civil land is about 3,001 hectares, the non-civil land is about 1,640 hectares. Until 2040, the urban construction land will be about 5,957 hectares, of which the civil land is about 3,716 hectares and the non-civil land is about 1,807 hectares.
