After more than four months of communication and mobilization efforts, Latter-day Saint Charities (LDSC/US) has officially committed to sponsoring the construction of 113 houses in Tan Son and Cam Khe districts in Phu Tho Province, with a total investment of VND 6.78 billion.
The announcement was made on May 19 via an official notification sent to relevant authorities by LDSC/US, as confirmed by the Center for Information, Consulting, and Foreign Affairs Services under the Phu Tho Department of Foreign Affairs.
As part of the project preparation, Director Du Van Quang of the Department of Foreign Affairs symbolically presented Phu Tho’s signature purple tea buds to an LDSC representative during a recent field survey, which aimed to assess and propose the initiative to eliminate temporary and dilapidated housing in the province.
The center is currently working to finalize the necessary procedures to officially receive the project and begin implementation.
In addition to the housing support project for poor and near-poor households, the center is also continuing its efforts to consult and mobilize LDSC to sponsor additional projects. These include computer classrooms and sanitation facilities for public educational institutions in Phu Ninh District, with an estimated total value of over VND 4 billion.
Founded in 1985, Latter-day Saint Charities (LDSC) is a U.S.-based non-governmental organization that operates in more than 190 countries and territories. Its work focuses on key humanitarian areas such as emergency relief (natural disasters, conflict, epidemics), clean water and sanitation, support for people with disabilities (wheelchairs, rehabilitation), medical and educational aid, and food security and livelihood support.
In Phu Tho province, LDSC has previously supported various impactful initiatives, including wheelchair donations; installation of clean water systems and toilets; provision of ophthalmology equipment; and assistance in school construction and educational supplies.
In 2021, during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, LDSC/US also provided emergency medical support to Phu Tho. The organization donated 1,000 sets of Level 4 protective suits and 20,000 N95 masks, with a total value of USD 16,400, to the Phu Tho Department of Health.
