The Tay Thien Festival 2026 takes place from April 2 to April 4 (the 15th to 17th of the second lunar month), consisting of two main parts: the ceremonial and the festive. The ceremonial part is conducted solemnly with traditional rites such as the reporting ceremony, palanquin procession, incense offering, and thanksgiving ceremony, expressing the people’s deep respect for the National Mother of Tay Thien. The festive part is vibrant with various activities, including folk games and performances associated with the wet-rice farming life from the early period of national construction under the Hung Kings, enhancing the cultural experience for visitors.
The Tay Thien Festival is a vital part of the spiritual and cultural life of the people in Dai Dinh and surrounding areas. It commemorates the great merits of National Mother Lang Thi Tieu – the Chief Consort of the 7th Hung King (Hung Chieu Vuong) – who assisted the King in expanding the borders and taught the people how to grow wet rice.
This is also an occasion to educate on patriotic traditions and evoke national pride among all classes of people, while promoting the image of the local people, culture, and tourism potential. The annual organization of the festival ensures solemnity and adherence to traditional rituals, contributing to the policy of building an advanced Vietnamese culture imbued with national identity.
