The preservation and promotion of the traditional cultural values of the ethnic groups in Thanh Son district, in conjunction with tourism development, have been closely directed by local authorities in recent years. Efforts have focused on increasing awareness and responsibility among residents for maintaining and promoting their cultural heritage.
In recent years, the implementation of Project 6, “Preserving and Promoting the Beautiful Traditional Cultural Values of Ethnic Minorities and Mountainous Areas Linked with Tourism Development,” under the National Target Program for Socio-Economic Development in Ethnic Minority and Mountainous Areas for the 2021–2025 period, has been actively promoted in Thanh Son district. The goal has been to raise public awareness about the importance of preserving and promoting traditional cultural values.
After a period of implementation, the project has largely met its objectives. It has supported traditional art troupes, helping to reduce disparities in living standards and cultural enjoyment between different localities and ethnic groups in the province. The project also strengthens the connection between economic development and the preservation and promotion of traditional ethnic culture, boosting cultural tourism in the area.
Currently, the district has 147 traditional art troupes in residential areas of ethnic minority and mountainous villages, as per the Prime Minister’s Decision 861/QD-TTg dated June 4, 2021. In 2022 and 2023, the district supported four art troupes: the Vach troupe (Kha Cuu commune), the Tu Chan troupe (Thuong Cuu commune), the Bai troupe (Dong Cuu commune), and the Quyet Tien troupe (Dich Qua commune). The total budget for this project was 542 million VND, which has been fully disbursed. The funds were used to purchase costumes, props, and sound equipment for the troupes, as well as for organizing and staging performances. In addition, the district has invested in preserving the exemplary traditional cultural village of the Muong ethnic group, integrating it with tourism development in Kha Cuu commune. The total project budget for this preservation and tourism development initiative is 3 billion VND.
Mr. Pham Tu, Vice Chairman of the Thanh Son District People’s Committee, stated that to implement the National Target Program for Socio-Economic Development in Ethnic Minority and Mountainous Areas for the 2021–2025 period, the district will continue to strengthen efforts to raise public awareness about the importance of preserving and promoting ethnic cultural identities in conjunction with sustainable tourism development. Additionally, there will be increased promotion of the region’s potential to further boost tourism, contributing to the enhancement of the material and spiritual well-being of the local people.
