Military Region 2 Museum has long been a “red address” for educating troops and residents in the Military Region about historical customs, particularly pupils from Phu Tho province’s schools.
The museum tour guide describes the cart utilized by civilian Ma Van Thang during the Dien Bien Phu Campaign.
The Museum displays and preserves images, documents, and artifacts about the Dien Bien Phu Victory, such as: Bayonets of Song Thao guerrillas (Phu Tho) used in combat, soldier telephone sets used to ensure communication, machine gun on Mr. Be Van Dan’s shoulder, DKZ-75 bullet shell, Third-class Military Merit Medal from the President given to Mr. Be Van Dan, Third-class Military Merit Medal from the President water given to Mrs. Nguyen Thi Nha in Vinh Lai commune (Lam Thao district), Dien Bien Phu Soldier Badge from comrade Ha Hung Long, Mr. Cao Van Quy’s copper pot in Cao Xa (Lam Thao district) was used to cook for soldiers, as was the cart of Ma Van Thang (Thanh Ba district) and the electronic compass introducing the Dien Bien Phu Campaign, recreating the heroic feats of our army and people that resulted in the “Illustrious in five continents, shaking the globe”. Parallel to the task of researching, collecting, inventorying, preserving, displaying, and propagating documents and artifacts of historical, cultural, and scientific value, reflecting the past process of building, fighting, and maturing the Armed Forces of Military Region 2 in the cause of national liberation, defense, and construction of the Fatherland, the Military Region 2 Museum is also a place of traditional education for generations in nine provinces of Militarty Region 2.
According to Military Region 2 Museum data, around 10,000 individuals visit, study, and research at the Museum on an annual basis. The Military Region Museum has worked closely with schools, educational and training establishments both inside and outside the Army, and local travel companies to effectively maintain the coordinated program “Journey to with the Museum,” establishing itself as a reliable destination for students to learn, research, and study historical science, military culture, military art, and so on. By 2023, almost ten thousand people will come to see, experience, research, and study, mostly students from schools: Hung Vuong High School for the Gifted, Phu Tho Vocational College, Tien Kien Primary School (Lam Thao), Kindergartens of Chu Hoa, Song Lo, SOS, Hoa Phong (Viet Tri city).
Lieutenant Colonel Pham Thi Kim Thuy, who has worked at the Military Region 2 Museum for 27 years, stated that the museum currently preserves and displays over 12,000 documents, images, and artifacts, including over 200 documents, images, and artifacts related to Dien Bien Phu’s historic victory. This allows everyone, particularly schoolchildren, to better comprehend and celebrate the nation’s heroic traditions.
To commemorate the 70th anniversary of the Dien Bien Phu Victory (May 7, 1954 - May 7, 2024), the Military Region 2 Museum created a display plan and mobile exhibition at key military units and the Museum with the theme “70 years of echoes in Dien Bien” from mid-April to May 7, assisting students understand the significance of independence and freedom today by displaying photos, papers, and objects at the Museum, which they may use as incentive to study and practice. This is also an effective “channel” for supplementing children’s historical knowledge in order to instill traditions, revolutionary ideas, and a love of homeland and nation in the next generation.
