On the evening of February 27, Phung Nguyen Commune officially opened the 2026 Tro Tram Festival for the Year of the Horse.
Locals perform “Tu dan chi nghiep,” vividly reenacting traditional folk occupations.
The Tro Tram Festival, also known as the “Linh Tinh Tinh Phoc” Festival, is closely associated with Tro Shrine, a sacred spiritual space for the local people. According to traditions passed down through generations, the festival is held on the night of the 11th and the early morning of the 12th day of the first lunar month, featuring unique rituals that pray for bountiful harvests, blessings, and fertility.

Leaders of Phung Nguyen Commune beat the drum to open the 2026 Tro Tram Spring Festival.
The festival consists of three main parts: the ceremonial rites, folk performances, and the “Mat” (Secret) ritual, attracting a large number of residents and tourists. A highlight is the “Tu dan chi nghiep” performance, which vividly reenacts the four traditional social classes (scholars, farmers, artisans, and merchants) through activities such as plowing, weaving, trading, and teaching. These are presented through a rustic, humorous style accompanied by meaningful folk melodies.
Delegates perform the incense offering ritual at Tro Shrine.
The most distinctive feature is the “Mat” Ritual, which is deeply imbued with fertility beliefs—an ancient tradition of wet-rice agricultural residents. The ritual not only reflects the aspiration for the reproduction and growth of humans and all living things but also embodies the philosophy of Yin-Yang harmony and the union of Heaven and Earth to create life and prosperity.
This is a unique piece of folk culture, demonstrating the creative thinking and rich spiritual life of our ancestors. The Tro Tram Festival is a spiritual cultural activity of the ancient Vietnamese and a traditional folk festival of Phu Tho province, officially recognized as a National Intangible Cultural Heritage.

The offering ceremony is performed at the festival.
Additionally, various cultural and sporting exchange programs were organized to welcome the Spring of 2026, celebrate the success of the 14th National Party Congress, and mark the upcoming elections for the 16th National Assembly and People’s Councils at all levels for the 2026-2031 term.
The Tro Tram Festival attracts a large number of local residents and tourists.
A Xoan singing performance is showcased during the opening night.
The Tro Tram Festival is a distinctive traditional event, rich in humanistic values and the cultural identity of the Ancestral Land. It is not only an occasion for people to express their respect and gratitude to their ancestors but also serves to educate on patriotic traditions and community solidarity. This encourages officials, Party members, and the people to continue striving in labor and production to build a more prosperous and civilized Phung Nguyen homeland.
