Following the recent administrative merger, Phu Tho Province now boasts an expansive and diverse geographic space, opening up vast potential and opportunities for a new era of development. Evolving from a land of sacred historical and cultural significance, Phu Tho is striving to become a new growth engine for the northern midland and mountainous region—demonstrated by its clear achievements in economics, governance, and investment, as well as promising prospects for strong future development.

A Sustainable Economic Foundation
The merger has unlocked a new economic development space for Phu Tho, with significantly expanded land area, population, and domestic market scale. The province’s gross regional domestic product (GRDP) in 2024 is estimated at nearly VND 290 trillion, with an average annual growth rate exceeding 8.5%. This is among the highest in the northern midland and mountainous region, highlighting the province’s effective economic management and strong post-restructuring integration capacity.
The economic structure has clearly shifted. The industry and construction sector now accounts for about half of the province’s total economic value, becoming the main growth driver. The services sector represents roughly 35%, playing a crucial role in connectivity and enhancing residents’ quality of life. Meanwhile, the agriculture–forestry–fishery sector has fallen below 15%, but has been restructured toward clean, high-tech agriculture integrated into value chains.
Key development clusters are taking shape. The Vinh Phuc and Viet Tri area has emerged as a hub for industry and urbanization, with concentrated industrial parks, synchronized transportation infrastructure, and an abundant skilled labor force. The Northwestern region (formerly Hoa Binh and other mountainous districts) stands out with its organic agriculture and medicinal herb production models, combined with eco-tourism and wellness tourism development
Effective Investment Attraction
The new Phu Tho is emerging as an attractive investment destination. As of mid-2025, total foreign direct investment (FDI) in the province has exceeded USD 9 billion, with a wave of large-scale projects from Japan, South Korea, Singapore, and European countries. Notably, the eastern region of the province—particularly the former Vinh Phuc area and Viet Tri City—stands out with high-tech industrial zones specializing in electronics, precision engineering, medical equipment, and logistics.
Alongside FDI, hundreds of domestic investment projects have also been actively launched. Numerous key infrastructure projects are transforming the region’s landscape, including the inter-regional road connecting the Noi Bai–Lao Cai Expressway with National Highway 6 through Viet Tri and Hoa Binh; the expansion of the Ha Hoa–Lam Thao Industrial Park; smart urban development projects in Phuc Yen, Viet Tri, and Phu Tho Town; and the 2,000-hectare Thanh Thuy–Kim Boi hot spring resort zone, which is attracting investment in high-end tourism.
Planning and site clearance have been implemented systematically and scientifically. Many localities across the province have proactively developed investment project portfolios, improved land database systems, and actively promoted investment both domestically and internationally.
Since the administrative restructuring, the new Phu Tho has gradually defined distinct economic development corridors. The eastern corridor serves as a hub for industry, logistics, and urban development. The western corridor focuses on clean agriculture, community-based tourism, and medicinal herbs. The central corridor along the Red and Lo Rivers has been shaped as a commercial, service, and inland waterway logistics zone.
Poised to Become a Northern Growth Center
With its central geographic location, comprehensive transport infrastructure, rich natural resources, and culturally vibrant heritage, the new Phu Tho holds great potential to become a comprehensive development hub in the northern midland and mountainous region.
The province is being planned around three major development corridors: industry and urbanization in the east; ecological agriculture and tourism in the west; and services and logistics along the central corridor. At the same time, initial steps have been taken toward digital transformation across key sectors such as education, healthcare, public administration, and e-commerce.
With a vision toward 2030, the new Phu Tho aims to become a leading province in terms of GRDP in the region. The province is working toward building a successful e-government and digital administration, ensuring balanced development across all areas, improving residents’ quality of life, and sustainably protecting its ecological environment. In parallel, Phu Tho continues to affirm its role as the “cradle of Vietnamese civilization” through strategies that promote cultural development, historical tourism, heritage preservation, and the celebration of national identity.
