On its journey to becoming a “City of Festivals Returning to the Roots of the Vietnamese People,” Viet Tri has emerged as a prominent destination, drawing large numbers of tourists from around the world each spring as they visit the land of their ancestors. From early January to the third lunar month each year, as young buds begin to sprout in the gentle spring air, Viet Tri enters its vibrant festival season—an unmissable experience steeped in the unique cultural heritage of the Hung King era.
Known as the “City of Three Rivers”—where the Red, Da, and Lo Rivers converge—Viet Tri serves as the gateway to the land of the ancestors. Not only is it a political and economic hub on a path of modern development, but it also boasts two UNESCO-recognized intangible cultural heritages: the Worship of the Hung Kings and Xoan Singing.
The first stop on the spring pilgrimage is the Hung Temple Historical Site, believed to be where the sacred spirits of the land converge. Atop Nghia Linh Mountain, visitors burn incense, bow in tribute to the Hung Kings, and pray for blessings and peace for their families and loved ones.
Visitors immerse themselves in Xoan melodies at the Hung Lo ancient communal house.
Following the Lo River, visitors arrive at Hung Lo Commune, a cultural treasure preserving the essence of northern Vietnam. Here, they can explore a traditional market, admire centuries-old houses reflecting the charm of the ancient countryside, and immerse themselves in the melodic Xoan singing echoing beneath the historic roof of Hung Lo Communal House.
Like many other cultural tourism destinations, Hung Lo Ancient Village becomes especially lively during this season, welcoming a steady stream of visitors. Each week, Hung Lo welcomes two to three groups of domestic and international visitors. Visitors can explore the Hung Lo Ancient Communal House complex and listen to captivating historical tales of this ancient land. They can also enjoy traditional performances with artisans and Xoan singers, sip spring wine as they exchange good wishes, try their hand at wrapping and tasting Chung cake, or witness the making of Hung Lo’s famous rice noodles. A visit to the lively countryside market completes the experience, offering a true taste of local culture. Together, these experiences create a vibrant spring atmosphere and leave visitors with lasting memories.
On their spring journey, visitors can explore the spiritual sites of Tam Giang Temple and Dai Bi Pagoda, serenely nestled by the breezy riverbank. They can also witness the sacred water procession at the confluence of the three rivers. Visitors should not miss Van Lang Park, a lush oasis in the heart of the city. Here, they can enjoy the vibrant colors of spring flowers, the lively energy of bustling streets, and the dazzling festival lights that illuminate the city at night.
Families capture cherished memories with photos at Van Lang Park, surrounded by the beauty of spring.
Spiritual sites and picturesque landscapes have become key attractions for tourists visiting Viet Tri. Hopefully, the city will continue to shine as a highlight on the tourist map of Vietnam and Phu Tho province, leaving a lasting impression on both domestic and international visitors.
