On the fields and hillsides of Muong Thang commune, as the sugar cane enters harvest season, rows of cane rustle in the wind, their tall stalks reaching skyward, with lush green leaves and hints of white, purple, and golden hues from the new sunlight, stretching endlessly. The commune has over 736 hectares of sugar cane, with an expected yield of 117 quintals per hectare, totaling an estimated 8,620 tons. Sugar cane is not only a familiar crop cultivated by generations, but it also remains a key agricultural product, playing an important role in the socio-economic development of the region, offering a persistent sweetness to the land of Muong Thang.

Sugar cane fields on the hillsides of Muong Thang commune.

The area planted with white sugar cane is larger, covering more than 483 hectares.

The family of Bui Van Thanh, from Mac village, grows over 3,800 square meters of purple and white sugar cane, expecting an income of over 100 million VND per harvest.

These days, many traders come to Muong Thang to buy sugar cane directly from the farms.

Sugar cane is sold at local agricultural markets along National Highway 6, where visitors and locals can buy it as a gift.

Tall sugar cane stalks are selected to be used as seed for the new harvest.

Bui Thi Dien is preparing seeds for a new planting season with over 3,000 square meters of land.

After harvesting, the people of Muong Thang immediately prepare the soil to plant the next crop of sugar cane.
