On September 2, the People’s Committee of Son Vi commune, Lam Thao district, organized a duck swimming and catching game, which is one of the special activities in the commune organized to celebrate the 79th anniversary of the National Day of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam (September 2, 1945 * September 2, 2024).
The organizers prepare to release ducks into the pond.
People participate in chasing ducks in the pond.
At Uncle Ho’s fish pond (area 10), 150 ducks are released into the pond for people to catch. Participants must be healthy and know how to swim. The game has attracted a large number of people to participate, especially young men who are good at swimming and skilled. There is no division into teams, no determination of winners or losers; the reward for participants is the number of ducks that the players catch.
A large number of people come to watch and cheer.
The joy of catching ducks.
Duck catching is a traditional game held annually, a long-standing cultural beauty in the lives of local people, a healthy sport, training health, physical strength, and swimming skills with the concept that each duck caught will bring luck to themselves and their families, conveying the wishes of the people in agricultural production, praying for good crops and healthy children in the family, and at the same time creating a spirit of solidarity and attachment in the community.
