In the days leading up to the 2026 Lunar New Year, the flower and ornamental plant market is buzzing with activity. A wide variety of species, including shaped peach trees, ornamental kumquats, orchids, and gladioli, are being sold at flower markets and central hubs, supplied by traditional craft villages to customers both near and far.
Amidst this diverse market, a new direction has emerged in Tho Van Commune. One individual has invested significant time and effort into creating unique lyre-shaped (hyacinth vase-shaped) peach trees for the 2026 Tet season, capturing the attention of many customers. The pioneer of this style is Mr. Le Tien Dung, a resident of Area 5, Tho Van Commune.

From a young age, over 100 peach trees were bent into the shape of a “luc binh” (hyacinth vase). This process is extremely labor-intensive to ensure a beautiful silhouette.

Caring for this type of peach tree requires more meticulousness and scientific precision than conventional styles. The owner must constantly tend to, prune, and closely monitor the growth process to maintain the shape. Some trees take more than two years of care to achieve the desired form.

At a specific stage, the leaves are stripped, the branches are retended, and moss is applied to create an ancient, weathered look, with branches having been carefully and regularly pruned.

This Tet, Mr. Dung has introduced over 100 lyre-shaped peach trees to the market. They have been warmly received by enthusiasts, with some customers even placing orders and “reserving” their trees early to be displayed just before the holidays.

Currently, the vase-shaped peach trees have been potted, waiting for customers to pick them up or be shipped to distant locations. The “luc binh” shape symbolizes wealth and prosperity, which is why many customers are eager to hunt them down.

The trees are transported by truck to ensure that branches are not broken and pots remain intact during transit.

In addition to the unique vase-shaped trees, Mr. Dung has prepared thousands of other ornamental peaches, such as wild peaches, “huyen” (cascading) style peaches, and small bonsai peaches, to supply markets inside and outside the province. His model currently provides seasonal employment for 13–15 local workers.

Mr. Dung (left) shared: "I started growing peaches in 2015 while working for local nurseries. Besides learning from experience on the job, I studied books, newspapers, and joined ornamental plant groups to accumulate knowledge."
According to Mr. Dung, his garden is expected to generate over 1 billion VND in revenue from Tet peach sales in 2026. His model is a prime example of the youth in Tho Van pursuing creative and effective economic development. Looking ahead to 2027, Mr. Dung plans to expand his garden to 2,000 trees, focusing primarily on high-value, uniquely styled lines like the lyre-shaped and ancient peach trees.
