On April 6-7 (i.e., the 9th-10th day of the third month of the lunar calendar), a water puppet show will be held at Thuy Dinh Stage, Khuon Muoi Lake, and the Hung King Temple Historical Site to serve people attending the Hung Kings' Commemoration Anniversary and the Cultural-Tourism Week of the Ancestral Land in the year of At Ty 2025.
The Play “King Hung Teaches People to Plant Rice”
Artists from the provincial art troupe presented the play “King Hung Teaches People to Plant Rice” to tourists. With elaborate staging and professional performances that combined traditional music with skillful puppetry, the audience was taken through a legendary story from ancient times. Back then, people did not know how to plow or grow rice, relying instead on tree roots, wild animal meat, and various wild fruits and vegetables. The land along the riverbanks became enriched with alluvium each time the floodwaters rose. King Hung observed the fertile land and decided to call upon the people to build a dike to contain the water. Seeing rice growing wild, the king taught the people how to save the seeds, sow the seedlings, and, once the seedlings had sprouted, plant them in the flooded fields. At first, the people did not know how to plant, so they asked the king for guidance. King Hung pulled up some seedlings, waded into the flooded fields, and planted them for the people to see. The people followed his lead.
Water puppetry attracts many tourists.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Hien, from Yen Thuy District, Hoa Binh Province, shared, "At the Hung King Temple Historical Site, there are many cultural activities for tourists to experience. This morning, I found the water puppet show very interesting. The story was vividly told through dances and folk music. Through such cultural activities, visitors can learn more about the people, the land, and the legends of our nation’s origin."
The water puppet show runs four times a day at the following times: 8:30, 10:30, 14:30, and 16:30.
