With less than 20 days remaining until the Vietnamese Lunar New Year in 2025, the atmosphere of the holiday is becoming lively and bustling along the roads. In Cam Khe District, local producers of OCOP (One Commune One Product) goods are actively working to supply the market for the upcoming Tet festival.
At the Da Hen Tea Production and Processing Cooperative in Dong Luong Commune, visitors can clearly feel the urgency and bustle as workers focus on producing goods to prepare for the national traditional holiday. The Da Hen Tea village has been recognized as a traditional craft since 2010, with 80 households participating in tea production and processing. In 2021, the high-quality Da Hen tea was recognized as a 4-star OCOP product. The cooperative has meticulously prepared for the Tet market by carefully processing the tea leaves after they are harvested, which involves steps such as drying, thermal processing, rolling, drying again, scenting the tea, and packaging the finished product.
Along with improving the quality of raw materials, the village has focused on renewing packaging, labels, and varieties to meet market preferences. It is known that to date, all of the unit’s products have their own distinct packaging and designs, with a variety of products such as: Da Hen green tea, shrimp bud tea, and premium tea... Currently, the village produces over 1 ton of tea per month, generating 200-300 million VND in revenue and providing stable employment for 24 workers with an average monthly income of 5 to 6 million VND. Nguyen Van Thanh, Director of the cooperative, shared, “We are fully prepared to meet the demand for Tet. In addition to traditional products, we also have gift boxes for customers.”
In Phuong Vi Commune, the Phuoc Duyen Sour Pork Production Facility has two OCOP-certified products: sour pork and shiitake mushroom cartilage sausage, both rated 3-star OCOP. To prepare for Tet, the facility began ramping up production in early December of the lunar calendar, mobilizing all family members and additional workers to ensure sufficient stock for customers. Mr. Duong Van Phuoc, the owner, said, “Our facility, which produces two OCOP 3-star products, provides jobs for 7 to 8 regular employees and 10 to 12 seasonal workers. To prepare for Tet, we have increased production to ensure we have enough stock to serve customers.”
Implementing the “One Commune, One Product” Program, by the end of 2024, Cam Khe District had 30 products that met the OCOP 3-star and 4-star standards. In the days leading up to the 2025 Lunar New Year, the district organized the opening of a booth to promote, introduce, and sell OCOP products, which will run for 20 days, starting from January 8, 2025 (the 9th day of the 12th lunar month of the Year of the Snake). The purpose is to introduce and promote the characteristic products with potential and strengths of the locality to the people and visitors, and to create conditions for cooperatives and production and business establishments to promote, introduce, and trade their products.
Mr. Nguyen Cong Chinh, Deputy Head of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Cam Khe District, stated: 'This Tet, the district People’s Committee issued a plan to organize the opening of the booth to promote, introduce, and sell OCOP products, with the goal of promoting the OCOP products of the district and the local characteristic products with the region’s strengths.'“
