Construction Launch Ceremony of the New Phong Chau Bridge Investment Project

On December 21, in Phung Nguyen Commune, Lam Thao District, the Ministry of Transport (MOT) chaired and coordinated with the People’s Committee of Phu Tho Province to organize the Construction Launch Ceremony of the New Phong Chau Bridge Investment Project - National Highway 32C, Phu Tho Province. This is an investment project under the Emergency Construction Order of the Ministry of Transport.

Minister of Transport Tran Hong Minh spoke at the construction launch ceremony of the New Phong Chau Bridge Investment Project.

Attending the ceremony were Mr. Tran Hong Minh, member of the Party Central Committee and Minister of Transport; Lieutenant General Nguyen Trong Binh, Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army; and Major General Nguyen Dang Khai, Deputy Commander and Chief of Staff of Military Region 2.

On the Phu Tho Province side, there were: Bui Minh Chau - member of the Party Central Committee, secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, chairman of the Provincial People’s Council, head of the Provincial National Assembly Delegation; Bui Van Quang - deputy secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee; Nguyen Thanh Hai - member of the Provincial Party Committee Standing Committee, vice chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee.

Delegates presented gifts to the construction force of the project.

Pursuant to Decision No. 1454 dated September 1, 2021, of the Prime Minister on approving the Road Network Planning for the period 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050, the Ministry of Transport has approved the investment project to build the new Phong Chau Bridge - National Highway 32C, Phu Tho Province - according to the Emergency Construction Order and assigned the Thang Long Project Management Board as the project investor.

Minister of Transport Tran Hong Minh and Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee Bui Minh Chau visited and inspected the construction site.

According to the design, the new Phong Chau Bridge has a total length of over 652m, of which the length of the bridge to the end of the abutment is about 383m. The starting point of the project is on National Highway 32C, in Phung Nguyen Commune, Lam Thao District; the end point is in Van Xuan Commune, Tam Nong District. The width of the bridge is 20.5 m, ensuring 4 lanes for motor vehicles. The bridge is constructed using reinforced concrete beams and prestressed reinforced concrete; the main bridge section consists of 3 continuous beam spans, a balanced cantilever, abutments, and pillars made of reinforced concrete and a bored pile foundation. The road section connecting the two ends of the bridge ensures the scale of a grade III plain road, with a design speed of 80 km/h. The total investment is over VND635 billion.

Giving the construction order at the ceremony, Minister of Transport Tran Hong Minh requested that Corps 12, the contractor, quickly start work, ensure progress, labor safety, and quality of the project, and mobilize full equipment, machinery, and construction workers in 3 shifts and 4 teams. He emphasized that, according to the Prime Minister’s request, on December 22, 2025, Corps 12 must complete and organize the inauguration ceremony of the new Phong Chau bridge.

Corps 12 mobilized equipment and machinery to speed up the construction progress of the project.

The urgent implementation of the construction project of the new Phong Chau bridge - National Highway 32C demonstrates the determination of the Ministry of Transport, relevant ministries, branches and Phu Tho province in promptly handling the collapse of the old Phong Chau bridge on National Highway 32C, ensuring the urgency, quickly resolving the traffic disruption, overcoming the consequences of storms and floods; soon connecting the traffic network in the area, creating favorable conditions for people to travel across both banks of the Red River connecting Tam Nong district with Lam Thao district, Phu Tho province and localities in the region; supporting socio-economic development, ensuring national defense and security in the area.
