baophutho.vnWith forestry land accounting for more than 55% of total natural land area, the province has had many policies in recent years to develop forestry into a modern economic-technical industry, promoting linking production from forest planting, protection, and use to wood processing and trade in forest products to increase the value of forests sustainably.
Forest rangers spread the word and motivate residents in Cu Thang commune, Thanh Son district, to transform vast wood plantations into high-value timber plantations.
Thanh Son district, being one of the places with a vast area of hills and woods, has had numerous solutions throughout the years to develop the forest economy into a vital economic sector with high economic efficiency. The district has currently turned roughly 2,000 hectares of unproductive crops into huge wood trees with considerable economic value. The district as a whole contains almost 44,000 ha of forest area (of which production forest exceeds 31,000 ha and protection forest exceeds 11,000 ha), forest coverage exceeds 50%, and average productivity of planted forest is 70m3/ha/cycle time. The annual timber production totaled 169,740 m3. As a result, the economic development of the hills and woods is the district“s strength, delivering significant advantages in terms of economic value and enhancing people”s lives. There are 120 firms, institutions, wood processing cooperatives, carpentry villages and cooperatives, and tea villages in the area that contribute to product consumption, raise product value, and generate jobs.
Ms. Dinh Thi Kieu An, Vice Chairman of the District People“s Committee, stated:”The district will effectively focus resources, maximize internal resources, and especially people“s consensus to gradually change farming practices from extensive farming to intensive farming to increase productivity and improve land use efficiency; create jobs, increase income; and associate the economic development of hills and forests with tourism development and environmental protection.”
Not only Thanh Son, but also districts with a large amount of forestry land, such as Yen Lap, Tan Son, Doan Hung, and Ha Hoa, have focused on promoting the development of production forests in the direction of maximization, new planting, and forest transformation large timber, expanding the area certified for sustainable forest, contributing to increased production efficiency, productivity, quality, and value of planted forests, average productivity of planted forests exceeds 15m3/ha; all yearly forest protection and development objectives have been reached or surpassed.

In recent years, the province as a whole has planted about 59 thousand hectares of concentrated forests, including almost 10 thousand hectares of major timber forests; harvested timber from planted forests output has risen dramatically over the years. The exploited production will reach 700 thousand m3 by 2021. The management and planning of three types of forests is focused, ensuring compliance with the provisions of current laws, through which the forest area in the province is protected, exploited, used effectively, and developed sustainably, and maximize the potential and advantages of forestry in the province; the area of natural and protective forests, especially closely managed and protected, the annual protected forest area reaches an average of 36.8 thousand ha; forest management and planning The work of forest fire protection, prevention, and fighting has been improved; acts of violating the provisions of the law on forest management, protection, and development have been reduced in both the number of violations and the extent of damage; and forest values are gradually exploited and promoted connected with ecotourism development and supply of forest environmental services, guaranteeing sustainable development.
Particular objectives for 2025: The forestry sector"s average growth rate of added value will increase by 3.3% per year; the value of income from production forests increased by 1.5 times per unit area compared to 2021; planting new concentrated forests on average 9,15 thousand ha/year; planting trees dispersed 10.1 million trees, an average of two million trees/year; maintaining the forest coverage rate at 38.8%...
