Large-Scale Livestock Farming – A New Growth Driver for Phu Tho Province

The merger of Phu Tho, Vinh Phuc, and Hoa Binh provinces has created a larger development space with greater resources and stronger synergies. Within this new landscape, agriculture continues to be recognized as one of the province’s key economic pillars. Notably, the livestock sector is entering a period of significant growth as a series of large-scale investment projects are being implemented, establishing modern production chains and gradually positioning Phu Tho as a major food production and processing hub in Vietnam’s Northern Midlands and Mountainous Region.

Major Investment Projects Driving the Livestock Industry

With its abundant land resources, well-developed infrastructure, and strategic transportation links, Phu Tho is becoming an increasingly attractive destination for investors in high-tech livestock farming. The current development trend focuses on establishing large-scale integrated livestock complexes that encompass breeding, feed production, slaughtering, meat processing, and distribution. This closed-loop production model improves productivity, increases product value, and enables producers to meet increasingly demanding market standards.

Several major projects have already become operational, laying the foundation for the transition from traditional livestock farming to modern industrial production.

A notable example is the Tam Dao Beef Farm and Processing Complex, jointly developed by Sojitz Corporation of Japan and Vinamilk Group. After more than one year of operation, the complex has been running steadily while continuing to expand its investment scale. Built with an investment of VND 1.67 trillion on an area of more than 75 hectares, the complex includes a 10,000-head cattle farm and a beef processing plant capable of processing 70–100 cattle per day, equivalent to approximately 10,000 tonnes of products annually.

This is Vietnam’s first large-scale integrated beef farming and processing complex, helping shift the industry from raw material production toward deep processing, increasing added value, and gradually completing Phu Tho’s livestock value chain.

Beyond the projects already in operation, Phu Tho continues to attract a new wave of investment in livestock farming. More than 10 large-scale livestock projects are currently seeking investment approval or planning production expansion. This demonstrates the province’s growing attractiveness to major agricultural investors and confirms that the strategy of developing large-scale livestock farming is creating new momentum for agricultural growth.

One of the most significant projects is the high-tech pig farming complex developed by Xuan Thien Group in the Yen Thuy and Lac Son areas. Covering nearly 4,000 hectares, the project is designed to raise approximately 63,000 breeding sows and produce more than 2 million market pigs annually, making it one of the largest pig farming projects in Vietnam. Supporting the farms is a feed production system with an annual capacity exceeding 1 million tonnes, creating a fully integrated production chain that secures feed supplies, reduces production costs, and enhances operational efficiency.

In parallel, Da Phuc Company is developing an integrated livestock farming, slaughtering, and food processing complex in Yen Thuy Commune, with a total investment of approximately VND 14.5 trillion. The project is designed to accommodate 40,000 breeding sows, produce 1 million market pigs annually, and operate a slaughterhouse with a processing capacity of 1.4 million pigs per year.

Once these projects are implemented in accordance with provincial investment plans, Phu Tho will establish a network of large-scale high-tech livestock production complexes, driving the modernization of the livestock industry through integrated production systems, higher value-added processing, and strengthening the province’s position as one of northern Vietnam’s leading livestock production centers.

A Key Driver of Double-Digit Economic Growth

Large-Scale Livestock Farming – A New Growth Driver for Phu Tho Province

Large-scale livestock farms are taking shape and becoming a major driving force behind the province’s agricultural development.

As Phu Tho aims to achieve double-digit economic growth during the 2026–2030 period, agriculture is expected not only to ensure food security but also to become a genuine engine of economic expansion.

According to the provincial agricultural sector, if these major projects are implemented on schedule, the livestock industry will generate substantial growth, increase agriculture’s contribution to the provincial economy, promote exports, and gradually establish Phu Tho as a large-scale food production and processing center for the Northern Midlands and Mountainous Region.

The arrival of major corporations also brings advanced technologies, modern management practices, and international production standards. These factors are essential for improving labor productivity, strengthening disease control, promoting the circular economy, reducing emissions, and advancing environmentally sustainable production.

According to Bui Duy Linh, Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment, the province’s agricultural sector is projected to grow by approximately 3.5% during the first six months of 2026 and aims to achieve 4.5–5% growth for the full year, with livestock production serving as one of the principal contributors. The province will continue improving its investment environment to attract major enterprises and corporations to develop modern livestock projects while ensuring environmental protection, biosecurity, and sustainable development. The long-term objective is to make livestock farming one of the primary growth drivers of the agricultural sector, generating higher added value and making a significant contribution to the province’s socio-economic development in the years ahead.

Following the provincial merger, livestock farming is no longer viewed merely as an agricultural production activity but is increasingly becoming a high-value economic sector capable of accelerating rural economic restructuring and creating new sources of growth for Phu Tho. By fully utilizing its development potential, attracting investment effectively, and maintaining strict control over environmental protection, disease prevention, and product quality, Phu Tho has every opportunity to become a major regional center for livestock production, food processing, and food supply, making an important contribution to its goal of rapid and sustainable development.
