Preserving and promoting traditional cultural values of ethnic minorities

Welcoming the New Spring 2024, the Party Committee, government and people of Dong Son commune have received more good news. Two newly established folk performance and art clubs of the commune and Ben Than region with a total of 37 members have added resources and strength to make the local cultural and artistic movement more diverse and vibrant on the occasion of Tet, welcoming the New Spring.

Dong Son currently has 779 households with 3,566 people, including eight ethnic groups living together, of which the Muong ethnic group accounts for 75%, the Dao ethnic group accounts for 20%... Identifying the special importance of taking care and development of the culture as the foundation and driving force to promote sustainable socio-economic development, for many years, the Party Committee and commune authorities have focused resources on implementing the Movement “All people unite to build the cultural life” associated with the Movement “All people unite to build new rural areas and civilized cities” on the basis of preserving and promoting traditional cultural values of ethnic groups in the local area. The subject of cultural activities is the people, therefore, the commune has stepped up the propaganda and advocacy work, creating favorable conditions for ethnic minorities to actively participate in preservation and promotion of their traditional cultural values.

Mr. Ha Thanh Giap - Chairman of Dong Son Commune People’s Committee affirmed: “Despite of many difficulties in the economic life, the commune’s cultural, artistic, physical training and sports activities are developing very vibrantly in both breadth and depth. Dong Son currently has 8 folk performance and art clubs with about 120 members who regularly practice and participate in exchanges and performances. Every year the commune organizes competitions, cultural and sports performances that attract a large number of people inside and outside the commune to participate in. The commune’s folk performance and art team has performed many times at Hung Kings’ Death Anniversary - Hung Kings’ Temple Festival and has created a beautiful impression on tourists from all over the country with performances rich in traditional cultural identities.

To date, Dong Son has had 75% of households entitled Cultural Family, and 7/8 areas entitled Cultural Residential Areas. The new cultural life has been creating the foundation and motivation for the Party Committee, government and ethnic people in the commune to strive to complete the big goal of achieving new rural commune standards in the near future.
