Tan Son: Elderly people preserve national cultural identity

In recent years, along with promoting the movement “Exemplary Elderly”, the Elderly Association at all levels of Tan Son district has had many practical activities in preserving national cultural identity in the locality. Among them, the elderly plays a core role in clubs and art teams in villages and hamlets.

In membership development, in 2023, the Association admitted 512 new members, bringing the total number of the Elderly Association members to 10,394 members, out of a total of 11,095 Elderly members. To date, the Commune Elderly Association has established and maintained 73 cultural, arts, and sports clubs such as: Kinh Lac Nursing Club; Mental energy and health nourishing club; Volleyball club; poet club, Rang singing club, Vi singing club... attracted 1,474 members to participate. In recent years, promoting the role of the elderly as shining examples at all levels, the Elderly Association in the district has always been exemplary, taking the lead in implementing emulation movements, setting a good example in production activities and poverty reduction, especially in preserving national cultural identity in the local area.

With many ways, the elderly not only contribute to protecting and preserving traditional culture but also promoting local cultural life to become increasingly rich and diverse. At the same time, it also plays an important role in ritual committees, cultural and religious activities, and preserves good traditional customs. Up to now, in the district there have been many folk culture clubs maintained such as Kiet Son commune folk culture club, Long Coc commune folk culture club, Kim Thuong commune club. In particular, for Xuan Son commune only, each hamlet has a cultural club. All participants in traditional culture clubs are local people, they are the elderly who together establish, participate and maintain typical traditional cultural forms of their people. In addition, the elderly also actively mobilize their children, grandchildren and families to carry out campaigns such as promoting education and talent; The campaign for all people to unite to build cultural life in residential areas, actively contributing to building cultural villages and cultural residential areas. In 2023, they mobilized our children, grandchildren and families to donate 18,405 square meters of land, contribute 850 working days and support an amount of nearly 190 million VND to build new rural areas. From specific and practical actions, the district’s Elderly Association has made an important contribution to local socio-economic development and is a shining example for younger generations to follow.

From the effectiveness of the elderly when participating in activities to preserve traditional culture, the Elderly Associations at all levels in Tan Son district have more resources and continue to promote their role in building a cultural lifestyle in the residential community. The elderly has become a shining example, contributing to connecting the young generations with local traditional values.
