The 1st Phu Tho Province Banh Chung Wrapping and Banh Giay Pounding Competition

As part of the 2026 Hung Kings' Commemoration – Hung Temple Festival and Ancestral Land Culture and Tourism Week, on April 24, the Organizing Committee opened the 1st Phu Tho Province Banh Chung Wrapping and Banh Giay Pounding Competition.

Ms. Bui Thi Minh – Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee and Chairwoman of the Provincial Fatherland Front Committee – along with delegates, present commemorative flags and flowers to the competing teams.

The opening ceremony was attended by Ms. Bui Thi Minh – Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee and Chairwoman of the Provincial Fatherland Front Committee; Ms. Nguyen Thi Cam Phuong – Member of the Provincial Party Standing Committee and Vice Chairwoman of the Provincial People’s Council; along with leaders from various agencies and localities.

The competition attracted 18 clusters, representing 148 communes and wards across the province. Teams competed in several categories: wrapping 10 Banh Chung in 8 minutes; boiling the cakes for 5 hours; cooking 5kg of sticky rice in 30 minutes; and pounding and shaping 10 Banh Giay within a maximum of 15 minutes.

The competition aims to recreate the contest of making offerings to Ancestors dating back to the era of the Hung Kings. It honors traditional cultural values, evokes pride in history, and demonstrates filial piety toward Ancestors and the spirit of community solidarity. Through this, the event contributes to preserving and promoting the unique values of the Hung King era cultural heritage and the “Worship of Hung Kings” belief in Phu Tho.

The First Prize winner will be selected to prepare Banh Chung and Banh Giay offerings for the 2027 Hung Kings' Commemoration.
