On February 12 (the 15th of January in the lunar calendar), Huong Can Commune, Thanh Son District, will hold the 2025 Spring Khoang Communal House Festival.
Khoang Communal House is a provincial-level cultural and historical relic, dedicated to Tan Vien Mountain Saint and his mother, Dinh Thi Den God Mother. Tan Vien Mountain Saint, also known as Cao Son (Nguyen Tuan), was a hero who fought against invaders, taught the people how to build dikes, prevent floods, and cultivate rice. He was also the son-in-law of the 18th Hung King and one of the “Four Immortals” in Vietnamese folklore, revered as the “Supreme Divinity” in the folk beliefs of Vietnam. Khoang Communal House is part of the system of temples dedicated to Tan Vien Mountain Saint in the northern lowland and midland regions. The temple preserves several artifacts dating back to the early 20th century, including a ceramic incense burner, ceremonial robes, a palanquin robe, blue-and-white porcelain plates, fruit trays, and a water basin.
The Khoang Communal House Festival is held according to traditional rituals, including the water procession, palanquin procession, and ceremonial offerings. The festival’s cultural activities feature the distinctive Muong ethnic culture, such as gong performances, senh tien dance, ball tossing, bamboo pole walking, cultural exchanges, football, volleyball matches, and cultural camps organized by local communities.
