Expanding consumption markets for products made by ethnic minorities

Programs and policies for socio-economic development in ethnic minority and mountainous areas have been well implemented by Thanh Son district recently, including promoting support for branding, advertising and expanding the consumption market for typical products of ethnic minorities, contributing to expanding a reputable distribution system inside and outside the province.

In 2023, the area for growing Qua Den sticky rice in Thang Son commune is 60 hectares, an increase of 57 hectares compared to 2020; Rice productivity reached more than 300 tons, revenue reached nearly five billion Vietnam dong. To achieve that result, in recent times, Thang Son commune has made efforts in product branding and promoting on the market. With the support of the district, the product has been promoted through e-commerce channels of the Department of Industry and Trade, on social networking platforms and participating in trade fairs inside and outside the province. In the coming time, the district will expand the planting area of this specialty sticky rice to about 85 hectares in Yen Son, Cu Dong, Huong Can, Yen Lang communes, and at the same time complete the criteria and prepare the registration documents for the province’s 3-star OCOP product.

Currently, Thanh Son district has 19 products and product groups with OCOP certification of 3 stars or more, of which 11 products and product groups with 4-star OCOP certification such as tea and sour meat. With the goal of developing unique products to improve quality, added value, and competitiveness of products, Thanh Son district has focused on supporting brand building for district products, introducing, introducing and advertising products, organizing a district culinary tourism trade fair with 140 booths; Participating in fairs in Cao Bang and Quang Ninh provinces; displaying products at the Trade Union Congresses, Farmers' Congresses at all levels, and sell them at supermarkets, on e-commerce platforms and social platforms such as Tiktok, Shoppe, Facebook... Especially, in December 2023, the district Department of Agriculture and Rural Development coordinated with ADLA Trading and Service Joint Stock Company to organize a livestream session on the Tiktok platform to introduce, promote and sell district products such as Ha Te rice noodles, sour meat, Qua Den sticky rice, soft shrimp sweet soup... In just 2.5 hours, 516 products were sold out, bringing a revenue of more than 105 million Vietnam dong.

At the XXVI Thanh Son District Party Congress, for 2020-2025 term, the District Party Executive Committee issued Resolution No. 07 on “Development of agriculture and forestry in Thanh Son district in the 2021-2025 period”, proposing out groups of tasks and solutions in developing typical products of the district by 2025. In particular, focus on forming production linked areas with stable output; standardize product quality standards such as: ISO, VietGAP, food safety...; apply scientific and technical advances to improve product quality and design; Build brands for products and promote products in the market. The district prioritizes the development of three products: Qua Den Sticky Rice, Yellow Pollen Banana, and Green Tea (Cam My Cooperative) with an implementation budget of nearly 8.4 billion Vietnam dong.

Mr. Ha The Anh - Deputy Head of the District Department of Agriculture and Rural Development said: “Effectively implement the province’s promulgated policy mechanisms, integrating funding sources from the state budget and other sources, the District People’s Committee has directed departments, branches and organizations to support the development of products with deep processing, fine processing, high-tech processing and product preservation; Support for brand building, promotion, link building, production and product consumption; continue to increase investment in infrastructure development in concentrated production areas.”
