Phu Tho Has 60.2 Thousand Hectares of Forests Certified for Sustainable Management

In recent years, Phu Tho’s forestry sector has focused on developing timber raw material production forests, guiding the expansion of high added-value products, and cultivating medicinal plant systems under forest canopies. Annually, the entire province plants around 17.5 thousand hectares of new concentrated forests, with average timber harvest output reaching approximately 1.5 million m3 per year.

According to the Department of Agriculture and Environment, the entire province currently cultivates over 26.8 thousand hectares of large-timber forests; 60.2 thousand hectares of forests have been granted Sustainable Forest Management certification (FSC), bringing economic benefits such as increasing timber value, expanding markets, stabilizing outlets, and contributing to nature and environmental protection.

For the 2026–2030 period, forestry is identified by the province as one of the key product groups prioritized to promote circular agricultural development. Accordingly, the province is creating favorable conditions to develop forest economics, large-timber value chains, under-canopy medicinal plants, and forest environmental services; while tapping ecotourism potential to ensure a harmonious balance between forest protection, green economic development, and raising residents' incomes.

Localities focus on expanding certified forest areas and raising timber quality to meet domestic and export market requirements; while maintaining the province’s overall forest coverage rate at 42.5%; encouraging investment in deep processing, and diversifying timber products to increase value and ensure stable consumption...

The province strives that by 2030, approximately 50% of by-products from timber harvesting and processing will be collected and reused as biomass fuel or raw materials for wood product manufacturing.
