Yen Lap develops OCOP products

In order to promote the development of agricultural products in the area in the direction of developing internal resources, creating branded products, and increasing product value, in recent times, Yen Lap district has promoted the development of OCOP products. From there, it creates income, contributes to poverty reduction, and improves the lives of local people.

Mr. Nguyen Thanh Trung, Vice Chairman of the District People’s Committee and Chairman of the District OCOP Council, informed us: In order to diversify agricultural products and promote the potential of agricultural production, the district has gradually planned concentrated production areas associated with tourism development, introducing local specialties to consumers. At the same time, promote propaganda and direct communes and towns to actively develop OCOP products. After nearly 4 years of implementing the One Commune One OCOP Product program, by November 2024, the district had 32 products recognized, evaluated, and classified as OCOP products with 3 stars or more with 26 subjects. The total number of communes with OCOP products in the district with OCOP products is 17/17 communes and towns.

Of which, 9 products were evaluated and classified last November: My Luong peanut oil, Trung Son skinny bamboo shoots; Yen Lap native pork; Nga Hoang oranges; Ho Ly rice cakes; Dien grapefruit with Phuc Khanh green shrimp; sour meat with garlic and chili; Ga crow sticky rice wine and Ga crow sticky rice wine.

Yen Lap District OCOP Council conducts the second evaluation and classification of OCOP products in 2024.

To develop OCOP products in the area, the Yen Lap District People’s Committee has implemented many support solutions for subjects such as encouraging and creating conditions for product producers to establish new cooperatives, expand production and business, and link production and consumption of products. Strengthening trade promotion to promote products to domestic and foreign markets. Paying attention to creating favorable conditions for OCOP subjects in the district to display, introduce, and promote typical products participating in fairs and exhibitions.

Coordinating with agencies, units, and people’s committees of communes and towns to propagate to subjects such as cooperatives, enterprises, and households to develop products associated with local strengths; checking the product production situation; guiding subjects to build product profiles to participate in the evaluation and classification of OCOP products.

At the same time, promote propaganda, popularize, and widely introduce the OCOP Program and OCOP products of the district and deploy 2 points of display and sale of OCOP products, one of which is in Yen Lap town and one in My Lung commune.

Yen Lap district’s OCOP products are regularly introduced and promoted at conferences inside and outside the province.

For the first time, there was a product to evaluate and classify OCOP products last November. Mr. Duong Van Minh, owner of the Ho Ly sticky rice cake production facility, said, As a Muong ethnic person, I have long been passionate about making cakes, many times participating in the Banh Chung and Banh Giay wrapping and pounding contests at the Hung Temple Festival and have won first prize 3 years and second prize 1 year. I realize that the traditional sticky rice cake of my hometown has a unique flavor and processing method; the cake is soft and smooth and is loved by many people. After being informed and guided, I built a product profile to participate in the 2024 OCOP product classification assessment for the Ho Ly rice cake product and was ranked by the Appraisal Council as a 3-star OCOP product...

It is known that with many years of winning awards, having an existing reputation, and being recognized as an OCOP product, Ho Ly rice cake is gradually gaining a foothold in the market. Currently, Mr. Duong Van Minh’s household has built a 53 m2 production workshop with a rice pounding machine and 12 workers, producing 250-300 products/day.

In the coming time, to continue developing OCOP products, Yen Lap district will focus on developing a variety of agricultural products, gradually planning concentrated production areas associated with tourism development, introducing local specialties, and bringing consumers and visitors from all over the world quality and safe products. Strengthening information and propaganda work, encouraging economic organizations and households to register to participate in evaluating and classifying OCOP products.

Connecting subjects with OCOP products to participate in introducing, displaying, and selling products at fairs, festivals, and conferences in and out of the province. At the same time, striving to implement solutions to strive to complete the goal in 2025 of building, evaluating, and classifying 7 products and evaluating upgrading with qualified products.
