Continuously improving the lives of ethnic minorities

Thanks to good implementation of ethnic policies, combined with synchronous implementation of socio-economic development programs, in recent years, the lives of ethnic minorities in Tan Son district have been improved.

Tan Son is a mountainous district, with 17 communes and 172 villages, where ethnic minorities account for 82.5%. Over the past time, with the attention of the district and the efforts of the people of all ethnic groups in the district, the economy continues to maintain and grow stably, with the average income per capita reaching 36.16 million VND/ person/ year (in 2023); The poverty rate decreased by 1.7% per year, and the average income per capita gradually increased.

In supporting the development of agricultural and forestry production in ethnic minority and mountainous areas, from 2021 until now, Tan Son district has directed specialized agencies to support many new agricultural production development models, with plant varieties and livestock of high economic value, provide technology and agricultural materials for people such as: Focusing on supporting, building and developing 2 key product chains “Linked chain of production and consumption of Green tea products” with a scale of 30 hectares in Long Coc commune, Van Luong; “Linked chain of production and consumption of wood products according to FSC standards” with a scale of 800 hectares...

In addition, to further improve the lives of ethnic minorities in the area, in recent times, the district has focused resources on planning and investing in developing socio-economic infrastructure in ethnic minority areas and particularly difficult areas. 100% of villages in ethnic minority areas have roads that have been invested in, upgraded, renovated, and newly built.

Traffic routes to commune and village centers have been hardened to facilitate travel. Focus on solutions to speed up the progress of key projects and works in the area such as: Tan Phu - Xuan Dai Road; roads connecting and developing tourism at Long Coc tea hill - Xuan Son National Park (section from Long Coc to Xuan Dai); flood overpasses in Kiet Son, Lai Dong, Dong Son, Xuan Dai...

Thanks to the synchronous implementation of policies to support economic development, the lives of ethnic minorities in the district have been improved. However, besides the achieved results, there are still many difficulties such as: Although the infrastructure system has been improved, it still does not meet the requirements for socio-economic development. The poverty rate in ethnic minority areas has decreased but is still high. Agricultural production has not yet become a major commodity, and income from agricultural production has not been promoted and commensurate with the potential and strengths of each region...

To well implement ethnic policies and continue to improve the lives of ethnic minorities, in the coming time, the district will fundamentally solve urgent problems, create livelihoods, and improve people’s income and lives. Mr. Tran Khac Thang - Vice Chairman of the District People’s Committee said: The goal from now to 2029 is to strive to reduce by over 2% of poor households on average each year. At the same time, focus on completely solving difficulties in housing, production land, and domestic water; do planning to stabilize population in ethnic minority and mountainous areas. Upgrade and expand 100% of roads to the centers of communes, villages and hamlets that have advantages in tourism development. Focus on attracting investment capital sources and supporting the construction of transportation infrastructure in extremely difficult communes and ethnic minority areas.
