Under the drastic direction of sectors and localities, in recent times, agricultural production in Phu Tho town has developed quite well, the agricultural economic structure has shifted in a positive direction, increasing the proportion of production value of the livestock and aquaculture industry, reducing the proportion of the cultivation industry and aiming to form concentrated commodity production areas with high economic value.
In 2023, the average product value per hectare of arable land and aquaculture in the town is estimated to reach 126 million VND, an increase of 14.5% compared to 2020. The production structure has undergone a strong shift, developing in depth, shifting from “quantity” to “quality”; Initially forming a number of concentrated commodity production areas to exploit the potential and strengths of the locality such as: High quality rice production area in Ha Thach commune, safe vegetable area applying VietGAP standards in Phong Chau ward, tea production and processing associated with product consumption in Phu Ho commune, banana growing for export in Thanh Minh commune.
In the field of animal husbandry, the town has shifted from small-scale, spontaneous animal husbandry to large-scale commodity production farms and farms with food hygiene and safety. Disease prevention in livestock and poultry receives attention from Party committees and authorities. The town currently has over 34,000 pigs, about 470 thousand poultry... In 2023, the total output of meat for sale of all kinds will be 10,500 tons, striving to increase by about 10% by 2025. In addition, aquaculture activities are also focused, developed in the direction of intensive farming, applying science and technology and VietGAP good farming practices, biosafety, protecting the ecological environment, organizing production links along the value chain with different farming species such as giant river prawns, V1 hybrid carp, red tilapia... promoting the conversion of low-lying, ineffective field areas to aquaculture...
The town also focuses on building brands, trademarks, and geographical indications of typical products and local specialties associated with the One Commune One Product Program (OCOP). From 2021 up to now, there have been eight products of four entities recognized as meeting provincial OCOP standards, including two products recognized with 4 stars and six products with 3 stars. In addition, the town also has two entities that are building collective brands associated with OCOP product development: Phu Thinh Tea Production and Processing Cooperative and Truong Thinh Agricultural Cooperative. The town has set a goal that by 2025, the total area of grain crops is estimated to reach 1,670 hectares, and the output is estimated to reach nearly 10,000 tons; The average product value per unit of cultivated and aquaculture area is estimated to reach over 135 million VND/ ha, striving to have seven more recognized OCOP products.
Mr. Mai Tien Manh - Head of the Town’s Economic Department said: To achieve the set goals and aim for green and safe agricultural production, build concentrated commodity production areas according to good agricultural practices, application of advanced modern technology, production along the value chain associated with processing and preservation to control products. In the coming time, the town will continue to prioritize the implementation of synchronous solutions, comprehensive and sustainable agricultural and rural development on the basis of restructuring the agricultural sector and maximizing local advantages; create favorable conditions to attract businesses to invest in agricultural and rural production.
