During the Lunar New Year, it has become a tradition that demand and purchasing power for goods increase. To meet this demand, provincial departments and agencies have implemented various solutions to ensure an abundant supply of quality goods, maintain food hygiene and safety, and stabilize prices. These efforts help reduce pressure on demand, prevent hoarding, and avoid sudden price increases, which could negatively impact people’s lives and the province’s socio-economic development.
The authorities ramped up inspections and control measures for goods during Tet in Tan Son district.
Abundant supply
According to the Department of Industry and Trade, the commodity market in the province has experienced no unusual fluctuations recently. Essential goods such as foodstuffs are in abundant supply, and prices remain relatively stable. However, some energy products, such as gasoline and liquefied petroleum gas, fluctuate in line with global prices. This year, the proximity of the 2025 New Year and the Lunar New Year will lead to a rapid and intense surge in purchasing power over a short period. To prepare, enterprises, cooperatives, and production households have proactively developed early plans to ensure a wide variety of goods.
The province currently has 425,632 households with a population of over 1.6 million people. To meet the demand during the Lunar New Year, the Department of Industry and Trade coordinates with relevant departments and sectors to organize activities that connect supply and demand, linking distribution businesses with essential food suppliers and stabilizing the market for Tet. Based on an analysis of essential goods and demand, the Industry and Trade sector has identified seven key items that must be ensured for supply and demand during the Lunar New Year 2025. These items include rice, cooking oil, sugar, milk for children under 6 years old, food, livestock, and poultry meat.
According to the reserve plan, rice is nearly 19,500 tons, with an average selling price of 19,000 VND/kg; cooking oil is over 1.4 million liters, with an average selling price of 45,000 VND/liter; sugar is 810 tons, with a selling price of about 22,000 VND/liter; processed food is nearly 2,200 tons, with a selling price of about 115,000 VND/kg; pork is 2,188 tons, with a selling price of about 110,000 VND/kg.
Currently, the supply of goods and distribution channels for the Lunar New Year are primarily concentrated in large distribution enterprises, including supermarkets, shopping malls, convenience stores, and markets across the province. The whole province currently has 4 shopping malls, 16 supermarket systems, 58 Winmart+ stores, and 197 markets. Additionally, multimedia sales channels, such as e-commerce platforms, phone sales, websites, and shopping applications, have also developed plans to reserve goods to meet the needs of people shopping online during the Lunar New Year 2025.
In the days leading up to Tet, businesses and goods suppliers not only ensure an abundant supply of goods but also supplement human resources, extend operating hours, and work to prevent empty shelves or overcrowding of customers shopping for Tet. Notably, this year, the goods on offer are primarily Vietnamese products, with a special focus on agricultural goods typical of both local and external provinces. Products participating in the One Commune One Product (OCOP) Program account for approximately 90% of the goods in the distribution and supply channels for Tet.
To ensure the supply of goods during Tet, the Winmart+ store in Zone 14, Hung Son Town, Lam Thao District is preparing a variety of goods to meet the shopping needs of the people.
Ensuring market stability
In reality, the supply and quantity of goods reserved by enterprises, cooperatives, farms, and production households in the province are abundant. In addition to proactively sourcing goods, suppliers participate in the price stabilization program, with a total reserve capital of nearly VND1,200 billion. Of this, more than VND1,100 billion is allocated to essential goods based on market demand. While participating in the price stabilization program, enterprises, cooperatives, farms, and production households must ensure that their selling prices are equal to or at least 3-5% lower than the prevailing market prices.
In anticipation of a large demand for goods, from the perspective of the management agency, Mr. Dang Viet Phuong - Deputy Director of the Department of Industry and Trade said: The Department of Industry and Trade will closely monitor the developments in supply - demand, prices of goods and the ability to supply goods of production and business units; preside over and coordinate the organization of connection and trade promotion activities to support the consumption of safe products, food, regional specialties, creating a source of goods for Tet; build points of sale to ensure adequate goods, stable prices to serve the people and organize promotional programs to stimulate consumption.
Accordingly, in districts and towns, 1 to 2 price stabilization points of sale will be arranged; Viet Tri city alone has 25 to 30 price stabilization points of sale, and the total number of price stabilization points of sale in the whole province is about 60 points. At price stabilization points of sale, goods are arranged and decorated to ensure civilized trade; goods are listed in price, displayed on shelves, arranged conveniently for buying and selling, and have a price list of items in the program.
Along with that, the Department of Industry and Trade coordinates with the State Bank - Phu Tho Branch and credit institutions to implement 7 market stabilization programs associated with the Bank-Enterprise Connection Program to support businesses in the province to receive loan support with preferential interest rates of 4.5-5%/year according to Decision No. 1225/QD-NHNN dated June 16, 2023, of the State Bank of Vietnam for a period of 6 months.
Promoting the implementation of activities to implement the campaign “Vietnamese people prioritize using Vietnamese goods” to support production, promote the circulation of goods, organize shipments, and markets to bring Vietnamese goods to rural, mountainous, remote, and isolated areas is focused on. At the same time, proactively coordinate with functional forces to strengthen market inspection and supervision, especially on issues of price, product quality, food safety regulations, acts of speculation, hoarding, illegal price increases, pork, gasoline, etc., to ensure the supply of goods in the province.
In general, preparations for goods to serve the people during the Lunar New Year 2025 have been thorough, ensuring a balance between supply and demand for essential goods, stabilizing prices, and meeting the shopping and consumption needs of the people to ensure a happy New Year.
