Gia Thanh Specialty Persimmon Production Expected to Exceed 2,000 Tons
By mid-August, the Gia Thanh seedless persimmon, a specialty of Phu Ninh district, has entered its harvest season. Thanks to the application of intensive farming techniques with an organic approach, this season’s Gia Thanh persimmons have seen a bountiful harvest. With over 100 hectares of persimmons ready for harvest, the estimated fruit production is expected to exceed 2,000 tons, marking an increase of approximately 30% compared to 2023.
The seedless persimmon variety is a specialty of Gia Thanh commune, known for its distinctive, delicious flavor, large size, and elongated shape. When ripe, the fruit turns a bright yellow, with a crisp texture and a sweet, sharp taste. A unique feature of this persimmon variety is that it only achieves its optimal size and flavor when grown in the soil of Gia Thanh, compared to other regions.
The peak harvest time is anticipated to occur in the middle of the 7th lunar month. Currently, the gardens have already received orders from traders, with purchase prices ranging from 30,000 to 50,000 VND per kilogram, depending on the weight and appearance of the fruit. To protect the brand of this specialty fruit, the agricultural sector of Phu Ninh district will continue to support farmers by providing origin traceability labels, as well as assistance with packaging and preserving the products.
