After six days of thrilling competition, the 2025 National Youth Wushu Championship officially concluded on June 23 at the Lao Cai Provincial Multi-Purpose Gymnasium. At the closing ceremony, outstanding athletes and delegations were honored, with the Phu Tho team surpassing expectations by securing 7 gold medals, 6 silver medals, and 6 bronze medals.
The Phu Tho delegation received the second-place flag in the Taolu category.
The championship took place from June 18 to 23 and attracted nearly 600 athletes from 31 provinces, cities, and sectors nationwide. Competitions were held in two main categories: Taolu (forms) and Sanda (sparring). Taolu events featured routines with bare hands or traditional weapons such as swords and staffs, while Sanda events involved head-to-head bouts based on weight classes in a knockout format.
The Phu Tho delegation received the third-place overall flag.
Phu Tho sent 13 young athletes to compete in both Taolu and Sanda events. With focus and determination, the athletes showcased impressive skills in disciplines like swordplay, staff technique, and Nam Dao, delivering powerful performances that captivated spectators and left a strong impression.
By the end of the tournament, Phu Tho not only exceeded its medal goal but also made history: for the first time, the delegation earned the second-place flag in Taolu and third place overall. Several of its athletes have been selected to represent Vietnam at the upcoming Asian Wushu Championship in China.
Nguyen Khac Le Hoang (born 2008) won 3 gold medals in Tai Chi, Tai Chi Sword, and Tai Chi Fan events.
The National Youth Wushu Championship is more than just a competition—it serves as a vital opportunity for localities to assess the effectiveness of their training, coaching, and youth development strategies. According to the organizers, the 2025 tournament saw a marked improvement in professional quality, with many young athletes displaying advanced techniques, discipline, and sportsmanship.
Ha Thuy Chi (born 2009) won gold in the women’s competition category.
The Phu Tho delegation’s success at this year’s championship is a testament to the province’s growing strength in youth wushu and a promising sign of sustainable development in the sport. The tournament also plays an important role in identifying and preparing top talents for upcoming international competitions.
